''Island of the Dead'' (German: ''Toteninsel'') is a 1921 German drama film directed by Carl Froelich and starring Lil Dagover, Bernhard Goetzke and Walter Janssen.Hardt p.222 The film's sets were designed by the art directors Robert Herlth, Walter Röhrig and Hermann Warm. Carl Froelich
Carl August Hugo Froelich (5 September 1875 – 12 February 1953) was a German film pioneer and film director. He was born and died in Berlin. Biography Apparatus builder and cameraman From 1903 Froelich was a colleague of Oskar Messter, one of the advance guard of German cinema, for whom initially he worked on the construction of cinematographic equipment. As cameraman for Messter's weekly newsreels he filmed among many other things the aftermath of a train accident on the Berlin elevated railway on 28 September 1908, one of the worst transport disasters of the time. Film director and producer Between 1912 and 1951 he made 77 films. In 1913 Froelich made his directorial debut with ''Richard Wagner (film), Richard Wagner''. Hermann Warm
Hermann Warm was a German art director for films. Born in 1889 (died 1976) in Berlin, Germany, Warm was an important figure in the expressionist movement of the 1920s. Warm entered the German film industry in 1912 after working on-stage for a while. As well as doing set work on films such as '' The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' and Fritz Lang's ''Destiny'', Warm also worked with Danish film director Carl Theodor Dreyer on films including ''The Passion of Joan of Arc'' and ''Vampyr''. During World War II, Warm lived in Switzerland and returned to Germany in 1947.
