Island Of Ponds
Island of Ponds is an island off of the east coast of Labrador. The Labrador mainland lies to its south and a channel called Domino Run separates it from Spotted Island to the north. The only remaining settlement on the island is Black Tickle. It is connected to the mainland by a seasonal coastal ferry service. Spotted Island
Spotted Island is an island off of the east coast of Labrador. Its south and east shores abut the Labrador Sea and a channel named Domino Run separates it from the Island of Ponds to the south. The island is approximately 4 miles long and 2 miles wide. Its name is due to the alternating black and white cliffs on its east coast. In 1867 Spotted Island harbour was the scene of a dramatic rescue when William Jackman single-handedly saved 27 people from a ship which had run aground on a reef. Black Tickle (Inuttitut: ''Kikkertet'') is a " remote Aboriginal settlement" and designated place in Newfoundland and Labrador on the Island of Ponds. In the 2021 census Black Tickle had a population of 87. Locations in Labrador south of Black Tickle generally observe Newfoundland Time instead of Atlantic Standard Time, which is observed by the rest of the province's continental communities. Black Tickle is served by Black Tickle Airport, a gravel strip airport (CCE4). The Goose Bay - Cartwright - Black Tickle ferry service, MV ''Kamutik W.'', runs from June to November.
