Island Explorer
The Island Explorer is a seasonal bus system that provides fare-free transportation on and near Mount Desert Island in the U.S. state of Maine. It is operated by Downeast Transportation, and largely intended to serve visitors to Acadia National Park as a means to reduce area traffic within the park and in area communities, including the Schoodic Peninsula. It typically runs from mid-June through the beginning of October, departing from Kennebec Street, to the west of Bar Harbor's Village Green. Operations began in 1999, and in 2019 the service carried over 647,000 passengers. Operations The service began operations in 1999. Mount Desert Island, Maine
Mount Desert Island (MDI; french: Île des Monts Déserts) in Hancock County, Maine, is the largest island off the coast of Maine. With an area of it is the 52nd-largest island in the United States, the sixth-largest island in the contiguous United States, and the second-largest island on the Eastern Seaboard, behind Long Island and ahead of Martha's Vineyard. Village Green, Bar Harbor
Village Green is an urban park in Bar Harbor, Maine, United States. Located centrally in the town, compared to the coastal Agamont Park about to the north, it is bounded by Firefly Lane to the north, Main Street to the east, Mount Desert Street (Maine State Route 3) to the south and Kennebec Street to the west. (Main Street is also Route 3 up until it reaches the park from the south. It then turns onto Mount Desert Street.) The park has a free public Wi-Fi network. The town's fire and police departments are located on Firefly Lane, across from the Green. WCSH (channel 6) is a television station in Portland, Maine, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by Tegna Inc. The station's studios are located on Congress Square in Downtown Portland, and its transmitter is located on Winn Mountain in Sebago. WLBZ (channel 2) in Bangor operates as a semi-satellite of WCSH. This station clears all network programming as provided by its parent, simulcasts most of WCSH's newscasts (with local weather inserts) and airs most of its syndicated programming (though in some cases at different times).
