Islamic Force
Islamic Force is an Oriental hip hop group, originally from Berlin, who ultimately began the Oriental hip-hop movement as a way of creating an identity for minorities in Germany. The group was founded in the late 1980s during a time of growth for hip-hop in Germany and was made up of members of different ethnicities, including lyric writer and rapper, Boe-B, vocalist Killa Hakan, whose families originally were from Turkey, DJ Derezon, whose ancestry was Spanish and German, and vocalist Nelie whose family hailed from Germany and Albania. Originally, their focus was on American hip-hop, and the group felt a strong connection to African American hip-hop, but they soon began experimenting with Turkish music and were the first group to combine computer drum rhythms with Arabesque breaks. Oriental Hip Hop
Turkish hip hop refers to hip hop music produced by members of the Turkish minority in Germany, and to a lesser degree by hip hop artists in Turkey. The Turkish minority, called the Turks, first drew inspiration from the discrimination and racism they received while living as migrant workers in Germany in the 1960s. Turkish hip hop uses Arabesk music, a folk style that finds its roots in Turkey during the 1960s, and is influenced by the hip hop music of America and Germany. Album artwork, lyrical content, and the Turkish language are used by hip hop artists to express their uniquely Turkish identity. The first Turkish hip hop album was recorded by the Nuremberg, Germany group King Size Terror in 1991. Islamic Force (now known as KanAK) is often recognized as the beginning of Turkish hip hop. Killa Hakan
Hakan Durmuş (born 3 March 1973), better known by his stage name Killa Hakan, is a Germany born Turkish rapper and songwriter. Biography Born in Berlin, West Germany, Hakan is one of the first Turkish rappers, and the first hardcore/gangsta rapper in Turkey. Before turning to music, he was a 36 Boys gang member and imprisoned for burglary, bank robbery, and wounding. Hakan started his professional music career by joining the band Islamic Force of Boe B. In 1997, they published the album "Mesaj". After Islamic Force separated, Hakan continued as a solo artist. So far, Hakan has released nine albums, the latest being "Son Mohakan" released in January. Arabesque (Islamic Art)
The arabesque is a form of artistic decoration consisting of "surface decorations based on rhythmic linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing foliage, tendrils" or plain lines, often combined with other elements. Another definition is "Foliate ornament, used in the Islamic world, typically using leaves, derived from stylised half-palmettes, which were combined with spiralling stems". It usually consists of a single design which can be ' tiled' or seamlessly repeated as many times as desired. Within the very wide range of Eurasian decorative art that includes motifs matching this basic definition, the term "arabesque" is used consistently as a technical term by art historians to describe only elements of the decoration found in two phases: Islamic art from about the 9th century onwards, and European decorative art from the Renaissance onwards. Lance Taylor (born on April 17, 1957), also known as Afrika Bambaataa (), is an American DJ, rapper, and producer from the South Bronx, New York. He is notable for releasing a series of genre-defining electro (music), electro tracks in the 1980s that influenced the development of hip hop music, hip hop culture. Afrika Bambaataa is one of the originators of breakbeat DJing. Through his co-opting of the street gang the Black Spades into the music and culture-oriented Universal Zulu Nation, he has helped spread hip hop culture throughout the world.
