History The university was founded in 1985 and admitted 175 students on that year. The university initially began its operation by renting a building located in the main square of Zanjan. Zanjan, Iran
Zanjan (Persian: زنجان, ; Azerbaijani: زنگان) is a city in northwest Iran, serving as the capital of Zanjan Province. It lies north-west of Tehran on the main highway to Tabriz and Turkey and approximately from the Caspian Sea. The city is located about 20 kilometers south of the Qaflankuh Mountain Range. The University of Zanjan (ZNU) ( Persian: دانشگاه زنجان Dāneshgāh-e Zanjan) is located in Zanjan, Iran. It was founded in 1975 and organized into four faculties. Nowadays it is one of the largest universities of the country with a community of over 10,000 students. At the 2006 census, the population of the nearby urban area (Zanjan city which is about 5 km away) was over 400s and the nearby rural area was only 125. History ZNU (the ex-Higher School for Agriculture & Animal Science) started its activities in 1975.
