Isla Norman-Bell
Isla Norman-Bell (born 21 February 2000) is an English rugby union player. Born in Gillingham, Kent, England, but brought up from the age of two in New Zealand, Norman-Bell was first called up your train with England sevens in December 2021. Prior to this, Norman-Bell attended the University of Auckland, and in 2019 she was named their sportswoman of the year. She was given a place on the New Zealand Women’s Sevens Development team to tour internationally and later played for the New Zealand Open Women’s Touch team at the World Championships in Malaysia. Norman-Bell was named in the 2019 Vodafone Warriors Women’s team that played in the NRL Touch Premiership, and played on the wing for Auckland Storm in the Farah Palmer Cup. Norman-Bell was selected to play for England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in rugby sevens. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. Gillingham ( ) is a large town in the unitary authority area of Medway in the ceremonial county of Kent, England. The town forms a conurbation with neighbouring towns Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham. It is also the largest town in the borough of Medway. Farah Palmer Cup
The Farah Palmer Cup (formerly known as Women's Provincial Championship until 2016), is the highest level domestic women's rugby union competition in New Zealand and is named after the former Black Ferns captain, Farah Palmer. This contest is held annually from late August to early November and managed by the New Zealand Rugby Union, or NZRU. The competition was first introduced in 1999, with a total of fourteen teams competing initially. The number of teams increased to eighteen in the year 2000, but has decreased to as few as six teams, with 13 currently featured. Canterbury are the current holders of the JJ Stewart Trophy, the women's equivalent of the Ranfurly Shield. The Farah Palmer Cup is an amateur competition; players are not paid salaries and hold jobs outside of rugby. England competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Having competed at every Games since their 1930 inauguration, it was England's twenty-second appearance (and third appearance as the host nation). Following the CGF's decision to revoke Durban's hosting rights, Birmingham was chosen as the English host candidate and submitted its bid. Though originally deemed not fully compliant, adjustments to the bid ensured the city was awarded the hosting rights in December 2017. Rugby sevens at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was held at the Coventry Stadium from 29 to 31 July 2022. A total of 16 teams competed in the men's tournament, while eight contested the women's tournament. South Africa won the men's tournament, while Australia won the women's. Schedule The competition schedule was as follows: Venue The tournaments were originally scheduled to take place at Villa Park, but instead took place at the Coventry Stadium in Coventry. The venue was moved because there were concerns with Villa Park being available. The football season was anticipated to start earlier because of the 2022 FIFA World Cup scheduling. The women's tournament for the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held in Cape Town, South Africa from September 9 to 11 at the Cape Town Stadium.
