Isidre Molas I Font
Isidre Molas i Batllori (born 12 October 1940, in Barcelona) is a Catalan politician and historian, who has served as the fifth President of the Socialists' Party of Catalonia since 19 July 2008. He has been a Senator from Barcelona since 5 April 2000. Early years Molas was born in Barcelona in 1940. His father was a musician, Isidre Molas i Font, and he is the brother of the historian and writer, Joaquim Molas i Batllori. In 1963, Molas graduated in law in the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He was an active member of the ''Front Obrer de Catalunya'' (Workers' Front of Catalonia) and joined the left-wing anti-Franco movement '' Frente de Liberación Popular'' (Popular Liberation Front). In 1962 he was judged and condemnated by a military court. The Socialists' Party of Catalonia ( ca, Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya, PSC–PSOE official acronym) is a social-democratic political party in Catalonia, Spain, resulting from the merger of three parties: the Socialist Party of Catalonia–Regrouping, led by Josep Pallach i Carolà, the Socialist Party of Catalonia–Congress, and the Catalan Federation of the PSOE. It is the Catalan instance of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), and its Aranese section is Unity of Aran. The Parliament of Catalonia ( ca, Parlament de Catalunya, ; es, Parlamento de Cataluña; oc, Parlament de Catalonha) is the unicameral legislature of the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The Parliament is currently made up of 135 members, known as deputies (''diputats''/''deputats''/''diputados''), who are elected for four-year terms or after extraordinary dissolution, chosen by universal suffrage in lists of four constituencies, corresponding to the Catalan provinces. The Parliament building is located in Ciutadella Park, Barcelona. Established in 1932, after the grant of self-government to Catalonia by the Second Spanish Republic, it went to exile in 1939 as a consequence of the Nationalist victory in the Spanish Civil War. Catalanism
Catalan nationalism is the ideology asserting that the Catalans are a distinct nation. Intellectually, modern Catalan nationalism can be said to have commenced as a political philosophy in the unsuccessful attempts to establish a federal state in Spain in the context of the First Republic (1873-1874). Valentí Almirall i Llozer and other intellectuals that participated in this process set up a new political ideology in the 19th century, to restore self-government, as well as to obtain recognition for the Catalan language.
