Isaac Campbell
Isaac Campbell, (June 19, 1853 – August 13, 1929) was a lawyer and political figure in Manitoba. He represented Winnipeg South from 1888 to 1891 in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Liberal. He was born in Morpeth, Kent County, Canada West, the son of Duncan Campbell, and was educated there, at the Canadian Literary Institute (later Woodstock College) and at Osgoode Hall. Campbell was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1878, to the Bar of Manitoba in 1882 and to the Bar of the North-West Territories in 1889. He practised law in Winnipeg with John Stanley Hough; this partnership later became the basis of the legal firm Thompson Dorfman Sweatman. From 1886 to 1906, Campbell was solicitor for the city of Winnipeg. In 1890, he was named Queen's Counsel. The Law Society of Manitoba (LSM) is the self-governing regulatory body of the legal profession in Manitoba, Canada. Membership in the LSM is required in order to practice law in the province. , the LSM had 2072 members with active practising status: 1821 practising within Winnipeg, 251 within Manitoba but outside of Winnipeg, and 81 outside of Manitoba. 1282 lawyers practised in private practice with 443 law firms of which 56% are sole practitioners. Hugh John Macdonald
Sir Hugh John Macdonald, (March 13, 1850 – March 29, 1929) was the only surviving son of the first prime minister of Canada, John A. Macdonald. He too was a politician, serving as a member of the House of Commons of Canada and a federal cabinet minister, and briefly as the eighth premier of Manitoba. Early life Macdonald was born in Kingston, Ontario, Kingston, Canada West (now Ontario) to Canada's first Prime Minister, John A. Macdonald and his first wife Isabella Macdonald, Isabella Clark Macdonald (1809–1857). Winnipeg (federal Electoral District)
Winnipeg was a federal electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1917. This riding was created in 1882 from parts of Selkirk riding. In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (Post-nominal letters, post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen regnant, queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Winnipeg South was a provincial electoral division in Manitoba, Canada, which existed on two separate occasions. It was initially created for the 1883 provincial election, and abolished with the 1920 election when Winnipeg became a single ten-member constituency. It was re-established for the elections of 1949 and 1953 as a four-member constituency, and was divided into several single-member constituencies in 1958.
