Irwin 27
The Irwin 27 is an American sailboat that was designed by Ted Irwin as a cruiser and first built in 1967. Production The design was built by Irwin Yachts in the United States starting in 1967, but it is now out of production. The Irwin 27 was the first production boat built by the fledgling company after its founding in 1966. The Irwin 27 followed on from the racing boat ''Voodoo'' that Irwin had constructed in 1963. Irwin had raced the boat from 1964 to 1966 and won 24 of the 28 races that he had competed in. Following the introduction of the Irwin 27, the company went on to build a line of smaller boats and later larger boats, such as the Irwin 41 and the Irwin 41 Citation racer. The company became one of the largest producers of sailboats in the United States. It went through multiple bankruptcies and name changes, before finally closing in 1992. Ted Irwin
Irwin Yacht and Marine Corporation, often just called Irwin Yachts, was an American boat builder based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The company specialized in the design and manufacture of fiberglass sailboats and became one of the largest producers of sailboats in the United States. The company was founded by Ted Irwin (June 28, 1940 – February 5, 2015) in 1966 and went through a succession of bankruptcies and subsequent name changes, before finally closing in 1992. The company produced more than 6,000 boats. Ted Irwin was a competitive sailboat racer, but the company built many of their boats specifically for the cruising market. Fiberglass (American English) or fibreglass (Commonwealth English) is a common type of fiber-reinforced plastic using glass fiber. Catalina 27
The Catalina 27 is an American sailboat designed by Frank V. Butler and Robert Finch. The design became one of the most popular sailing keelboats of all time and was built from 1971 to 1991. Production The boat was built by Catalina Yachts in the United States starting in 1971 and was also built under licence in Canada by Cooper Enterprises. In the first three years of production, 1,500 boats were completed and sold. A total of 6,662 examples were completed. The design was replaced in production by the Catalina 270 in 1991. Design The Catalina 27 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass. It has a masthead sloop rig, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder and a fixed fin keel. Aloha 27
The Aloha 27 is a series of Canadian sailboats, that were designed by American yacht designer Robert Perry and first built in 1979 under the designation Aloha 26. The Aloha 26, 27, 8.2, 271 are all closely related designs. Although the hulls are identical and were produced in the same mould, the builders used several different sail and mast suppliers during the production run of the designs and specifications for the boats produced varied accordingly. Many of the boats produced have interchangeable sails and other parts. Despite having so many designations for the vessel, Aloha 27 is colloquially used as the model designation. The Aloha 27 should not be confused with the slightly larger Aloa 27 which was designed by Frans Maas and built in France by Aloa Marine, starting in 1976.
