Irving Hale
Irving Hale (August 28, 1861 – July 26, 1930) was a brigadier general of the United States of America who served in the Philippines during the Spanish–American War and the early stages of the Philippine–American War. Biography Born in New York, Hale's family moved to Colorado in 1865. He graduated at head of the first class from Denver East High School in 1877. He enrolled at West Point in 1880, and graduated at the head of his class four years later. His final score was 2070.4 points out of a possible 2075, which is the highest-ever score from the military academy. Hale pursued studies in electrical engineering following his commission as a second lieutenant, but eventually resigned from the regular army to take a position with General Electric. Still living in Denver, Hale joined the state militia in 1897 as their lieutenant-colonel. Bloomfield, Staten Island
Bloomfield is the name of a neighborhood on the West Shore, Staten Island, West Shore of the New York City borough (New York City), borough of Staten Island. Camp Hale
Camp Hale was a U.S. Army training facility in the western United States, constructed in 1942 for what became the 10th Mountain Division. Located in central Colorado between Red Cliff and Leadville in the Eagle River valley, it was named for General Irving Hale and was at an elevation of above sea level. Onslow S. Rolfe, who had developed mountain warfare techniques as commander of the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment, was selected to command Camp Hale. Soldiers were trained in mountain climbing, Alpine and Nordic skiing, cold-weather survival, as well as various weapons and ordnance. When it was in full operation, approximately 15,000 soldiers were housed there. The creation of an elite ski corps was a national effort, with assistance from the National Association of Ski Patrol, local ski clubs, and Hollywood. The Hale neighborhood is a designated statistical neighborhood in the City and County of Denver, Colorado. Stroke
A stroke is a medical condition in which poor blood flow to the brain causes cell death. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding. The Eighth Army Corps was formed on June 21, 1898, shortly after the outbreak of the Spanish–American War, in order to provide a ground contingent to exploit Commodore George Dewey's success in defeating the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay on May 1, 1898. Under the command of Major General Wesley Merritt, Eighth Corps had only one division, curiously numbered as the Second Division. The Second Division was under the command of Brigadier General Thomas M. Anderson.
