Irving College, Tennessee
Irving College is an unincorporated community in Warren County, Tennessee, United States. It is concentrated around the intersection of Tennessee State Route 56 (Beersheba Highway), Dry Creek Road, and Hills Creek Road, south of McMinnville. Irving College Elementary School is located within the community, and numerous plant nurseries operate in the vicinity. The Collins River passes just east of the community, and ridges that mark the outer edges of the Cumberland Plateau surround the community to the east, south, and west. The community is named after a college that served the area from 1838 to 1890. Washington Irving
Washington Irving (April 3, 1783 – November 28, 1859) was an American short-story writer, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat of the early 19th century. He is best known for his short stories "Rip Van Winkle" (1819) and " The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (1820), both of which appear in his collection ''The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.'' His historical works include biographies of Oliver Goldsmith, Muhammad and George Washington, as well as several histories of 15th-century Spain that deal with subjects such as Alhambra, Christopher Columbus and the Moors. Irving served as American ambassador to Spain in the 1840s. Cumberland Plateau
The Cumberland Plateau is the southern part of the Appalachian Plateau in the Appalachian Mountains of the United States. It includes much of eastern Kentucky and Tennessee, and portions of northern Alabama and northwest Georgia. Collins River

State Route 56 (SR 56) is a state highway that runs south to north in Middle Tennessee, from the Alabama state line near Sherwood to the Kentucky state line near Red Boiling Springs. SR 56 is secondary south of Sewanee. It is primary (but unsigned) along US 41A and US 41 between Sewanee and Tracy City.
