Irvin Pelletier
Irvin Pelletier (born May 28, 1946 in Sayabec, Quebec) is a Quebec politician and notary. He was the Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Rimouski for the Parti Québécois. Pelletier went to Université Laval and received a bachelor's degree in pedagogy. He also attended the Université de Sherbrooke and obtained a master's degree in commercial sciences. He then became a notary for nearly 30 years and also a lecturer at Université du Québec à Rimouski where he was also an administration member. He was also involved in United Way campaign in the Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Rimouski Chamber of Commerce. Sayabec, Quebec
Sayabec () is a municipality located in the La Matapédia Regional County Municipality (RCM) in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada. It is located in the Matapédia Valley between the Chic-Choc Mountains of the Appalachian near Lake Matapédia. The main activities of the village are agriculture and forestry. It has a population of approximately 2,000, the third biggest municipality in its RCM after Amqui and Causapscal. Due to the presence of the chipboards plant called Panval, the biggest industry of the valley, Sayabec is an important regional economic centre. The territory was historically occupied by Mi'kmaq people, a First Nation who occupied much of the Gaspe Peninsula. Its first French Canadian inhabitant was Pierre Brochu, who came in 1833. The Bas-Saint-Laurent (Lower Saint-Lawrence), is an administrative region of Quebec located along the south shore of the lower Saint Lawrence River in Quebec. The river widens at this place, later becoming a bay that discharges into the Atlantic Ocean and is often nicknamed ''"Bas-du-Fleuve"'' (Lower-River). The region is formed by eight regional county municipalities and 114 municipalities. In the south, it borders Maine of the United States, and the Canadian New Brunswick and the regions of Chaudière-Appalaches and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine. Norbourg Scandal
The Norbourg scandal is a major financial scandal that took place in 2005. The scandal involved the Montreal, Quebec based Norbourg Financial Group, a trust-fund company founded by Vincent Lacroix. He diverted money from a Norbourg trust fund for personal interests. Nearly 9,200 investors in Quebec lost millions of dollars. It is considered as one of the largest Canadian financial scandals in history and largest in Quebec. Origins The scandal came into light during the summer of 2005 after the '' Autorité des marchés financiers'' (AMF - "Financial Markets Authority"; the province's top financial regulator) discovered that C$130 million was missing from company accounts. Rosaire Bertrand
Rosaire Bertrand (born October 25, 1936, in Saint-Fabien-de-Panet, Quebec) is an insurance broker and a former Quebec politician. He was the Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the provincial riding of Charlevoix as a member of the Parti Québécois from 1994 to 2007. Bertrand worked for 33 years in the insurance business as a chartered life underwriter, a certified insurance and a life insurance broker and was the president of two insurance firms from 1976 to 1997. He was also an administration member of the Junior Chambers of French Canada, the Canadian Life Insurance Association, the Association of Quebec City Life underwriters, the Provincial Association of Quebec Life Underwriters and the Insurance Brokers Association of Quebec. 2007 Quebec General Election
The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26, 2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats, but were reduced to a minority government, Quebec's first in 129 years, since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec, in a major breakthrough, became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election.
