Will-o'-the-wisp
In folklore, a will-o'-the-wisp, will-o'-wisp or ''ignis fatuus'' (, plural ''ignes fatui''), is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travellers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. The phenomenon is known in English folk belief, English folklore and much of European folklore by a variety of names, including jack-o'-lantern, friar's lantern, hinkypunk and is said to mislead travellers by resembling a flickering lamp or lantern. In literature, will-o'-the-wisp metaphorically refers to a hope or goal that leads one on, but is impossible to reach, or something one finds strange or sinister. Winterreise
''Winterreise'' (, ''Winter Journey'') is a song cycle for voice and piano by Franz Schubert ( D. 911, published as Op. 89 in 1828), a setting of 24 poems by German poet Wilhelm Müller. It is the second of Schubert's two song cycles on Müller's poems, the earlier being ''Die schöne Müllerin'' (D. 795, Op. 25, 1823). Both were originally written for tenor voice but are frequently transposed to other vocal ranges, a precedent set by Schubert himself. The two works pose interpretative demands on listeners and performers due to their scale and structural coherence. Although Ludwig van Beethoven's cycle ''An die ferne Geliebte'' (''To the Distant Beloved'') was published earlier, in 1816, Schubert's cycles hold the foremost place in the genre's history. ''Irrlicht'' is the first album by Klaus Schulze. Originally released in 1972, in 2006 it was the sixteenth Schulze album reissued by Revisited Records as part of a series of Schulze album reissues. Recorded without a synthesizer, ''Irrlicht'''s set of "early organ drone experiments" is "not exactly the music for which KS got famous". Overview The album's complete title is: ''Irrlicht: Quadrophonische Symphonie für Orchester und E-Maschinen'' (German: "Will-o'-the-wisp: Quadraphonic Symphony for Orchestra and Electronic Machines"). Its atmospheric drone music tone is similar to Tangerine Dream's album '' Zeit'' (released the same month) as it stemmed from a common idea that Schulze and Edgar Froese couldn't agree on and parted ways over. Irrlicht Engine
Irrlicht (pronounced in German) is an open-source game engine written in C++. It is cross-platform, officially running on Windows, macOS, Linux and Windows CE and due to its open nature ports to other systems are available, including FreeBSD, Xbox (up to Irrlicht version 1.8.1), PlayStation Portable, Symbian, iPhone, AmigaOS 4, Sailfish OS via a QT/Qml wrapper, and Google Native Client. Irrlicht is known for its small size and compatibility with new and older hardware alike, ease of learning, and a large friendly community. Unofficial bindings for many languages exist including AutoIt, C++Builder, FreeBASIC, GameMaker Language, Java, Lua, .NET, Object Pascal (Delphi), Perl, Python, and Ruby, though most of them have not been maintained for five years or more. Formed in 2001, Die Irrlichter ("Irrlicht" being a German expression for Will-o'-the-wisp) is a German band performing medieval folk and fantasy music at concerts, festivals, renaissance fairs, medieval banquets, and similar events in Germany and other European countries. They have been an all-female band since 2004. History The band was originally formed as troubadours for a live action role-playing game, but quickly expanded beyond that niche. The young band played their first concert as a support band for Saltatio Mortis (then already a well-known up-and-coming act) in Cologne in early 2001. They found a producer in Roland Kempen of Die Streuner, with whom they would produce their first four albums over the next five years.
