Ironton High School (IHS) is a public high school in Ironton, Ohio, United States. It is the only public high school in the Ironton City School District. Athletics The Ironton Fighting Tigers are a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. Currently, the other members of the conference include Chesapeake High School (Panthers), Coal Grove High School (Hornets), Fairland High School (Dragons), South Point High School (Pointers), Rock Hill High School (Redmen), Portsmouth High School (Trojans), Gallia Academy High School (Blue Devils). Ironton, Ohio
Ironton is a city in and the county seat of Lawrence County, Ohio, United States. Located in southernmost Ohio along the Ohio River northwest of Huntington, West Virginia, the city includes the Downtown Ironton Historic District. The population was 11,129 at the 2010 census. Ironton is part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 287,702. New definitions from February 28, 2013, placed the population at 363,000. Ironton is a contraction of "iron town." The city has a long history with the iron industry. Portsmouth High School (Ohio)
Portsmouth High School (PHS) is a public high school in Portsmouth, Ohio, United States. The school's athletic teams are known as the Trojans and the school colors are red and blue. History PHS has served the city since its founding in the 1830s and is the only public high school in Portsmouth. In 2000, Portsmouth voters passed a much needed school bond issue, which helped construct new schools for the district. The new schools opened for the 2006–2007 school year. These schools won the Grand Prize from School Planning & Management's 2007 Education Design Showcase. The award is awarded annually to the K-12 school that displays "excellence in design and functional planning directed toward meeting the needs of the educational program." Clint McElroy
Clinton Emil "Clint" McElroy, Jr. ( , born August 10, 1955) is an American podcaster, comic book writer and former radio personality. He is known for his work on the podcast ''The Adventure Zone'', as well as for hosting several FM radio shows in West Virginia. Additionally, McElroy is an adjunct professor in the Department of Theatre at Marshall University. Career Radio Clint McElroy is an alumnus of Marshall University, at which he worked with campus radio station WMUL. He then worked as news director at WKEE-FM in 1975, followed by roles at WRVC and WEMM-FM, as well as a sports director role at WWBA in Florida. Beginning in 1994, he co-hosted the morning show at WTCR-FM, along with co-host Judy Eaton. In 2017, he retired from radio. George McAfee
George Anderson McAfee (March 13, 1918 – March 4, 2009) was an American professional football player who was a back for the Chicago Bears from 1940 to 1941 and 1945 to 1950 in the National Football League (NFL). As an undergraduate at Duke University, McAfee starred in baseball and track and field as well as college football. McAfee was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As of 2018, he still holds the NFL record for punt return average in a career. Early life and college George McAfee was born in Corbin, Kentucky. He was the 10th of 12 children, and he often joked that the first children awake in the morning were the only ones who could wear shoes for the day. Lander McCoy Bacon (August 30, 1942 – December 22, 2008) was a professional American football defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Washington Redskins. He also was a member of the Washington Federals in the United States Football League (USFL). He was selected to three Pro Bowls during his 14-year career. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. Gallia Academy High School (Gallipolis, Ohio)
Gallia Academy High School (GAHS) is a public high school near Gallipolis at Centenary, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Gallipolis City School District. The boys' sports teams are known as the Blue Devils, while the girls' teams are called the Blue Angels. History GAHS was founded as a military academy in 1811. The first official location was constructed in 1936. The original high school building was converted to a junior high school after construction of new facilities in the 1950s. Rock Hill High School (Ohio)
Rock Hill High School (RHHS) is a rural, public high school near Ironton, Ohio. It is officially called Rock Hill Senior High School. It is the only high school in the Rock Hill Local School District. The high school is a four-year school, offering grades 9-12. Their nickname is the Redmen, and their mascot is an Indian Chieftain. Its official colors are red and white. Brief history The Rock Hill Local School District formerly consisted of four separate school districts, which were located in the towns of Decatur, Hanging Rock, Kitts Hill, and Pedro. Hanging Rock, Kitts Hill, and Pedro consolidated in 1949. Consolidation went somewhat smoothly, with the new school taking something from each of the old.
