''Irishman in America'' is the thirteenth studio album by Australian-born Irish singer and composer Johnny Logan, released in Europe in September 2008. The album is described as blending traditional Irish folk classics with American country & western. The album includes four original tracks, written by Logan. The album charted in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The album was released in Ireland in May 2009. Background and release In 2007, Logan released '' The Irish Connection'' which went platinum in Denmark, twice platinum in Norway and gold in Sweden. The idea to release another "Irish" album was expressed by Logan's Danish friend and promoter through many years, Calle. Johnny Logan (singer)
Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard (born 13 May 1954), better known by his stage name Johnny Logan, is an Irish singer and composer. He is known as being the only performer to have won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in Eurovision Song Contest 1980, 1980 and Eurovision Song Contest 1987, 1987. He also composed the winning song in Eurovision Song Contest 1992, 1992. Logan first won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980, with the song "What's Another Year" written by Shay Healy. Woodrow Wilson Guthrie (; July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) was an American singer-songwriter, one of the most significant figures in American folk music. Waxies' Dargle
"The Waxies' Dargle" is a traditional Irish folk song about two Dublin "aul' wans" (older ladies/mothers) discussing how to find money to go on an excursion. It is named after an annual outing to Ringsend, near Dublin city, by Dublin cobblers (waxies). It originated as a 19th-century children's song and is now a popular pub song in Ireland. Origin of “The Waxies’ Dargle” In the 19th century, during the Summer, the gentry of Dublin would travel out to Bray and Enniskerry with their entourages and have picnics on the banks of the River Dargle. Jordan "Jerry" Ragovoy (September 4, 1930 – July 13, 2011) was an American songwriter and record producer.
