Oneida, New York
Oneida (, one, kanaˀalóhaleˀ) is a city in Madison County located west of Oneida Castle (in Oneida County) and east of Wampsville, New York, United States. The population was 11,390 at the 2010 census. The city, like both Oneida County and the nearby silver and china maker, was named for the Oneida tribe, which had a large territory here around Oneida Lake during the colonial period. History This area was part of the territory of the Oneida tribe during the colonial era. A ridge or a mountain ridge is a geographical feature consisting of a chain of mountains or hills that form a continuous elevated crest for an extended distance. Verona (called ''Te-o-na-ta-le'', "''pine forest''" by the Haudenosaunee) is a town in southwestern Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 6,293 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Verona, Italy. Verona is located south of the City of Rome. History Part of the extensive territory of the ''Haudenosaunee'' or Iroquois League, the municipality was first settled by European Americans in 1792, after the American Revolutionary War. The Town of Verona was established from the Town of Westmoreland, in 1802. In 1993, the Oneida Nation purchased land in the town. On this site it built and opened a casino and bingo hall.
