The Irish Baseball League (IBL) is the men's league in Ireland. It started play in 1997. The season runs from March to October and are played on the weekends. Club sides and fields The O'Malley Fields at Corkagh Park in Clondalkin, West Dublin are the main home of Irish Baseball and current home field for the Dublin City Hurricanes and the Dublin Spartans. The Greystones Mariners play at Shanganagh Park in Shankill, County Dublin. The Ashbourne Baseball Club plays at the International Baseball Centre in Ashbourne, County Meath. The Belfast Northstars and the Ulster Buccaneers currently play at HM Prison Hydebank Wood, Hydebank. Comets play at the Peace Link in Clones, County Monaghan. Tom Kelley (baseball)
Thomas Henry Kelley (January 5, 1944 – September 25, 2015) was an American pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Cleveland Indians and the Atlanta Braves in parts of seven seasons spanning 1964–1973. Listed at 6' 0" , 185 lb. , Kelley batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Manchester, Connecticut. Playing career Kelley was signed by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1963. He posted a 9–9 record and a 3.17 earned run average with Double-A Charleston Indians the following year, earning a late-season callup to the majors, where he made six relief appearances. In 1965, Kelley compiled an outstanding 16–3 record with a 2.38 ERA in 26 starts for the Triple-A Portland Beavers of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, including a no-hitter against the Spokane Indians on May 29. Ashbourne, County Meath
Ashbourne, historically called ''Killeglan'' or ''Kildeglan'' (), is a town in County Meath, Ireland. Located about 20 km north of Dublin and close to the M2 motorway, Ashbourne is a commuter town within Greater Dublin. In the 20 years between the 1996 and 2016 census, the town almost tripled in population from approximately 4,900 to 12,700 inhabitants. The town is passed by the Broad Meadow Water, which comes from Ratoath and Dunshaughlin. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The first baseball game in Ireland was held in Dublin in 1874, and it continues to be played by several teams including in the Irish Baseball League. Belfast Northstars
The Belfast Northstars is one of two clubs from Northern Ireland competing in the Baseball Ireland adult league. An amateur club, the Northstars play their home games at Hydebank Playing Fields in Newtownbreda, Belfast. The club competes in Baseball Ireland's B League. Franchise history The early years The Northstars were formed in September 1996 when 10 players split away from the Belfast Blue Sox. The Blue Sox had been affiliated with baseball in Britain, but travelling to games and hosting visiting teams became problematic. Shankill () is an outlying suburb of Dublin, Ireland, situated in the administrative area of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. Clondalkin ( ; ) is a suburban town situated 10 km south-west of Dublin city centre, Ireland, under the administrative jurisdiction of South Dublin. Corkagh Park
Corkagh Park (, from ''corcach'', meaning "marsh") is a park situated in Clondalkin in South Dublin, between the N7 and the Old Nangor Road. The River Camac flows through it and within the grounds of the park there are fishing ponds. A caravan park can be found near the parks N7 entrance. The area, once Corkagh Demesne, contained two large houses, and historically also featured mills. History Formerly, the park was known as Corkagh Demesne, on which two large houses stood, and gunpowder mills were run. When Lewis Chaigneau bought Corkagh in the 1720s he leased a portion of the estate to Nicholas Grueber for the establishment of gunpowder mills. Grueber ran the mills from 1716 to 1733. The gunpowder mills on Corkagh Estate, active during the 18th and 19th centuries, were regarded as a nationally important centre for the production of gunpowder and provided employment for many local people.
