Irish Baroque Orchestra
The Irish Baroque Orchestra is an early music ensemble based in Ireland. Irish Baroque Orchestra is Ireland’s only professional period instrument orchestra. It was established in 1996 by Mark Duley and Thérèse Timoney. The artistic director is currently Peter Whelan. The orchestra presents a season of concerts annually along with a number of one off events. The orchestra is funded annually by the Arts Council of Ireland, Dublin City Council and is a resident of the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Irish Baroque Orchestra's annual sell out performances of Handel's Messiah are a highlight of Ireland's musical calendar. IBO records on Linn records and in April 2019 will release their forthcoming disc, ''Welcome Home Mr Dubourg''. Early Music
Early music generally comprises Medieval music (500–1400) and Renaissance music (1400–1600), but can also include Baroque music (1600–1750). Originating in Europe, early music is a broad musical era for the beginning of Western classical music. Terminology Interpretations of historical scope of "early music" vary. The original Academy of Ancient Music formed in 1726 defined "Ancient" music as works written by composers who lived before the end of the 16th century. Johannes Brahms and his contemporaries would have understood Early music to range from the High Renaissance and Baroque, while some scholars consider that Early music should include the music of ancient Greece or Rome before 500 AD (a period that is generally covered by the term Ancient music). Mark Duley
Mark Duley is a choral director and organist from New Zealand. He is the chorus master of the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir. Biography Duley is a first class honours graduate of Auckland University. Post-graduate studies in organ brought him to the North German Organ Academy and to the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, where he was a pupil of Jacques van Oortmerssen. He then worked for time in England and was organist of Christ's Hospital, before moving to Dublin in 1992 to take up the post of organist and director of music at Christ Church Cathedral. During his eleven years there, the cathedral gained an international reputation for its music. He directed the choir on many CD recordings, broadcasts on the RTÉ, BBC and EBU networks, and on tours to the UK, France, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia and New Zealand. Ardee Baroque Festival
The Ardee Baroque Festival is an annual music festival, covering baroque music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, which takes place each November in Ardee, County Louth in Ireland. The festival, which was first held in 2004, hosted its "20th season" in November 2023. The festival was initially founded in collaboration with the Irish Baroque Orchestra (IBO). The IBO has previously been "orchestra in residence" at the festival, attending for the preceding week to undertake rehearsals, education outreach programs and other performances. The festival has also previously hosted performances from Dunedin Consort and New York Polyphony. Performances have been held in several venues within Ardee, including in Ardee Castle. Ardee
Ardee (; , ) is a town and townland in County Louth, Ireland. It is located at the intersection of the N2, N52, and N33 roads. The town shows evidence of development from the thirteenth century onward but as a result of the continued development of the town since then much of the fabric of the medieval town has been removed. Ardee is on the banks of the River Dee and is equidistant between the county's two biggest towns - approximately 20 km (12 mi) from Dundalk and Drogheda, while it is also close to Slane and Carrickmacross.
