Irene Guerrero
Irene Guerrero Sanmartín (born 12 December 1996) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as central midfielder for English Women's Super League club Manchester United and the Spain national team. Club career Real Betis In 2012, Guerrero joined the newly formed Real Betis, the club she grew up supporting. She made her senior debut with the team while playing in the second division. She made over 100 appearances for the club, helping earn promotion to the first division during the 2015–16 Segunda División. For the club's debut season in the 2016–17, Guerrero was named captain at the age of 19. She was the only player on the team to play in all 30 games and scored three goals at the team finished comfortably mid-table in 11th. The Women's FA Challenge Cup Competition is the top annual cup tournament for women's clubs in English football. Founded in 1970, it has been named the WFA Cup, FA Women's Cup and now Women's FA Cup (Vitality Women's FA Cup for sponsorship reasons). The Rubiales affair ( es, Caso Rubiales, links=no) refers to the fallout, both social and sporting, caused by the conduct of Luis Rubiales, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), beginning in August 2023. Having acted inappropriately during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup final on 20 August 2023, Rubiales' response to the criticism of his conduct was deemed to become worse in the days following the tournament, and to have exacerbated the controversy. After an erratic speech he made on 25 August 2023, the entire Spain women's national football team withdrew from selection and several RFEF staff resigned; Rubiales was soon suspended from all football by FIFA.
