Ireland East Hospital Group
The Ireland East Hospital Group ( ga, Grúpa Ospidéal Oirthear na hÉireann) is one of the hospital groups established by the Health Service Executive in Ireland. History The grouping of hospitals was announced by the Minister for Health, James Reilly, in May 2013, as part of a restructure of Irish public hospitals and a goal of delivering better patient care. Health Service Executive
The Health Service Executive (HSE) ( ga, Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte) is the publicly funded healthcare system in Ireland, responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. It came into operation on 1 January 2005. The current Director-General is Stephen Mulvany on an interim basis, after Paul Reid stepped down in October 2022. The new Director General, Bernard Gloster, will take up the role in Spring 2023. History The Executive was established by the Health Act 2004 and came into official operation on 1 January 2005. It replaced the ten regional Health Boards, the Eastern Regional Health Authority and a number of other different agencies and organisations. James Reilly (Irish Politician)
James Reilly (born 16 August 1955) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician, businessman and medical doctor who served as a Senator from May 2016 to March 2020. He previously served as Acting Minister for Children and Youth Affairs from February to May 2016, Minister for Health from March 2011 to July 2014 and deputy leader of Fine Gael from 2010 to 2017. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency from 2007 to 2016. He subsequently announced his retirement from politics after he lost his bid for election for his old seat at the 2020 general election. Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital
National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh ( ga, Ospidéal Náisiúnta Ortaipéideach Cheapach), situated in Finglas, Dublin, is the largest orthopaedic hospital in Ireland. It is managed by Ireland East Hospital Group. History Lady Martin, widow of Sir Richard Martin, died in 1907 and bequeathed Cappagh House to the Religious Sisters of Charity "to provide a school for poor children in the neighbourhood". However, it was not situated in a populated area and, from 1921, it was used as a convalescent home for children and a training school for nursery nurses.
