Ireland is an unincorporated community in Coryell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 60 in 2000. It is located within the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metropolitan area. History Ireland was originally known as Hamco for its location on the Hamilton-Coryell County line. Jonesboro Independent School District
Jonesboro Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Jonesboro, Texas (USA). Located in Coryell County, small portions of the district extend into Hamilton and Bosque counties. In February 2015 the district had 178 students. In February 2015 the Texas Education Agency ordered Jonesboro ISD to close permanently in July. It had received below standard academic ratings for the prior six years. Jonesboro ISD began seeking an informal review in order to prevent its closure. Superintendent Matt Dossey stated that he did not anticipate any permanent closure of the district. Gatesville is a city in and the county seat of Coryell County, Texas, United States. Its population was 16,135 at the 2020 census. The city has five of the nine prisons and state jails for women operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. One of the facilities, the Mountain View Unit, has the state's death row for women. Gatesville is part of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood metropolitan statistical area. John Ireland (politician)
John Ireland (January 1, 1827March 15, 1896) was the 18th Governor of Texas from 1883 to 1887. During Ireland's term, the University of Texas was established, and construction on the Texas State Capitol began. Ireland is credited with the selection of local pink granite as the construction material. Stephenville North And South Texas Railway
The Stephenville North & South Texas Railway (SN&ST) was incorporated in Texas on February 4, 1907 by Stephenville and Hamilton business interests. Its original standard gauge 43 mile line was built between Stephenville and Hamilton and completed in late 1907. The first train operated between Stephenville and Hamilton on Christmas Day 1907. Regular service began in January 1908. Four apparently identical wooden depots of a standard design were built at Hamilton, Carlton, Spurlin, and Alexander (where the Texas Central line of the Katy Railroad crossed). The SN&ST shared a union station with its original primary railroad connection, the long established Fort Worth & Rio Grande Railroad at Stephenville. Hamilton County, Texas
Hamilton County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 8,222. The county seat is Hamilton. The county was created in 1858. It is named for James Hamilton Jr., a former governor of South Carolina who gave financial aid to the Republic of Texas. History Indigenous peoples were the first inhabitants of the area. Later Native American tribes settled in the area, including Tawakoni, Tonkawa, Waco and Comanche. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer.
