Iqaluit (film)
''Iqaluit'' is a 2016 Canadian drama film directed and written by Benoît Pilon and starring Marie-Josée Croze, François Papineau and Natar Ungalaaq. The film was shot in Iqaluit, Nunavut, which provided its title. It is about a Quebec woman (Croze) who travels to Northern Canada after her husband (Papineau) is seriously injured. She uncovers the secret relationships he had with the Inuit community, and becomes acquainted with an Inuit man (Ungalaaq) struggling with a related family crisis. Pilon conceived of the story and planned the execution for years, though the travel and shooting conditions provided challenges. The film screened in a few film festivals before a general release. ''Iqaluit'' received some positive coverage in the Quebec press and favorable reactions from Nunavut viewers. Benoît Pilon
Benoît Pilon (born July 27, 1962) is a francophone Canadian director and screenwriter particularly noted for his innovative films and documentaries on the human condition. He is also the co-founder of ''"Les Films de l'autre" productions'', which produces, promotes and helps the development of independent films throughout North America. Career Benoît Pilon earned a B.A. in film studies at Concordia University. He went on to form Les Films de l'Autre in 1988 with Manon Briand and others, an independent production co-op dedicated to auteur-driven films. His short 2003 short, ''Roger Toupin, épicier variété'', won a Prix Jutra for best documentary, His debut feature, ''The Necessities of Life'', which was written in collaboration with Bernard Émond, was a multi-award winner – four Genies, including best director for Pilon, and three Prix Jutras, including best picture and screenplay. ''The Necessities of Life'' (french: Ce qu'il faut pour vivre) is a 2008 Canadian drama film directed by Benoît Pilon and starring Natar Ungalaaq, Éveline Gélinas and Paul-André Brasseur. Told in both French and Inuktitut, the film is about an Inuit man who is sent to Quebec for tuberculosis treatment. The film was shot in Iqaluit, Nunavut and Quebec City.
