Ipswich Rangers Rugby Club
The Ipswich Rangers, is a rugby union football club located in Ipswich, Queensland, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. The club currently competes in the top division of the Queensland Suburban Rugby Union, Queensland Suburban competition for the Barber and Pegg Cups, and previously played in the Brisbane Premiership now known as Queensland Premier Rugby. The Ipswich Rangers play their home matches at Woodend Park, and the team wears a green and white strip. History The original Ipswich Rangers Rugby Club was formed in July 1886, and played a Combined Brisbane team a month later. In 1887 the Rangers won the Hardgrave Challenge Cup for the premiership of the Colony of Queensland, defeating the Wanderers club of Brisbane in the deciding match by 5 points to 2. The Queensland Rugby Union, or QRU, is the Sports governing body, governing body for the sport of rugby union within the state of Queensland in Australia. It is a member and founding union of Rugby Australia. The QRU was founded in Brisbane in 1883 as the ''Northern Rugby Union'', after breaking away from the Queensland Football Association before being formally constituted in 1893 when the name was changed to the Queensland Rugby Football Union. Queensland Suburban Rugby Union
The Queensland Suburban Rugby Union, or QSRU, is affiliated to the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and runs the rugby competition colloquially known as "Subbies" in Brisbane and South East Queensland. The QSRU selects a representative side to play annual matches against NSW Suburban, for the Barraclough Shield. The major "Subbies" trophy is the Barber Cup, awarded to the first grade premiers of the first division. The Subbies competition has around 1000 players and 20 clubs competing in three divisions, spread across Brisbane spanning from Redcliffe to Beenleigh, and Wynnum to Ipswich. The competition is for amateur players, and provides another tier of rugby below the Brisbane premier club competition. Queensland Premier Rugby is a semi professional club rugby union competition in Queensland, Australia. Nine clubs play in the competition, eight of which are from Brisbane with one club from the Gold Coast. The premiership has been contested in its present form since 1929. History Queensland Premier Rugby (QPR) evolved out of the Brisbane club competition that had been running since 1887. It was created by players, administrators, referees and coaches to expand and improve the top level of Queensland non-professional rugby. The British & Irish Lions is a rugby union team selected from players eligible for the national teams of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The Lions are a test side and most often select players who have already played for their national team, although they can pick uncapped players who are eligible for any of the four unions. The team currently tours every four years, with these rotating between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in order. The Wynnum Rugby Union Club, known as Wynnum Bugs, is a rugby union football club located in Wynnum, in Queensland, Australia. The original Wynnum club was one of the founding teams of the Brisbane Premiership (now Queensland Premier Rugby) that was formed by the revived Queensland Rugby Union in 1929. Ballymore is a rugby union stadium situated in Herston, Queensland, Herston, a suburb of Brisbane, Australia. It is the headquarters of Queensland Rugby Union and was the home ground of the Brisbane City (rugby team), Brisbane City team in the National Rugby Championship, until the league's disbandment in 2019. Paul Edward McLean, MBE (born 12 November 1953) is an Australian former rugby union player and administrator and is a senior executive in the real estate business.
