Iowa Star Conference
The Iowa Star Conference is a high school athletic conference in Central and Northeast Iowa. The conference comprises fifteen schools, split between north and south divisions within the conference. Current members North Division Future Division Member South Division Recent history North Tama County joined the Iowa Star in 2003, leaving the North Iowa Cedar League. Former member CAL (Coulter-Alexander-Latimer) last had their own high school in the 2017–18 school year. After many years of sharing sports teams with Dows High School, and competing as CAL–Dows, Dows left the agreement and partnered with Clarion–Goldfield for the 2014–15 school year. The CAL school district still supports grades K–6, with grades 7–12 attending Hampton–Dumont; the athletic teams are referred to as Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Iowa High School Athletic Association
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sports overseen by the IHSAA are baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. As classifications vary highly across sports, they are included under the individual sport section. Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School District
Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School District (RRMR) is a rural public school district headquartered in Rockford, Iowa. It operates the RRMR Elementary School/Preschool and RRMR Junior-Senior High School, both in Rockford. The district is mostly in Floyd County with sections in Cerro Gordo and Mitchell counties. In addition to Rockford, it serves Marble Rock and Rudd. Tama is a city in Tama County, Iowa, United States. The population was 3,130 at the time of the 2020 census. Tama is situated two miles south of Toledo, the county seat. The two towns are close enough to have nearly grown together over the years. History Tama got its start in the year 1862, following construction of the Cedar Rapids and Missouri River Railroad through the territory. Tama is located a few miles from the Meskwaki Settlement, Iowa's only significant Native American community. Tama was located on the historic Lincoln Highway and is home to an original Lincoln Highway bridge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Meskwaki Settlement School
Meskwaki Settlement School (MSS) is a tribally controlled school with oversight by the Bureau of Indian Education, is located in the Meskwaki Nation, also known as the Meskwaki Settlement. It is in unincorporated Tama County, Iowa, about west of Tama, and is a property of the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa. History The Sac and Fox Settlement School was originally established as a Day School by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The school then became part of the South Tama County Community School District, and then closed in 1972. After application by the tribal members to the Bureau of Indian Education, the school re-opened in 1980 as a tribally operated school. Garwin, Iowa
Garwin is a city in Tama County, Iowa, United States. The population was 481 at the time of the 2020 census. History Garwin was platted in 1880. A post office called Garwin has been in operation since 1880. In 1879, the Toledo and Northwestern Railroad was sold to the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. After the sale, the railroad line was extended northwestward from Toledo. Various new towns were established along the tracks, but the Garwin, Iowa was the first railroad station beyond Toledo. Giving the town a name proved to be a difficult process. At first, it was called “Maple,” or as some claim “Myrcle,” but neither name was particularly favorable. The next choice was “Marvin,” in honor of Marvin Hewitt, an official of the Northwestern railroad, but it was soon discovered that another town had already taken the name. Maxwell is a city in Story County, Iowa, United States. The population was 859 at the time of the 2020 census. BCLUW Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Conrad, Iowa. As of 2015, the school district has about 640 students in grades K-12.
