Nacella Concinna
''Nacella concinna'' is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Nacellidae, one of the families of true limpets.Bouchet, P. (2014). Nacella polaris (Hombron & Jacquinot, 1841). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=713922 on 2015-01-26 Description The shell of ''Nacella concinna'' grows to about long with deep water specimens being rather smaller. It is an elongated ovate, moderately elevated cone with a low apex somewhat towards the anterior margin and angled in that direction. There are about 30 faint radial ribs and a series of fine concentric lines that indicate the annual growth rings. The exterior of the shell is varying shades of pale brown and grey and the interior is dark purplish-brown in deep water specimens but creamy-brown in those from shallow water. The mantle has a fringe of short tentacles.

James Hamilton McLean
James Hamilton McLean (17 June 1936 - 11 November 2016)Coan E. V., Kabat A. R. & Petit R. E. (15 February 2009''2,400 years of Malacology'' (6th Edition). was an American malacologist (a biologist who studies mollusks). He specialized in marine gastropods. He worked on many families of Eastern Pacific gastropods including the Fissurellidae, Trochidae, Turbinidae and Liotiidae, and also investigated deep sea gastropods from hydrothermal vents. McLean worked as a curator of Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County from 1964 to 2001 and was a curator emeritus there until his death in November 2016. Molluscs described McLean, often together with other malacologists, described, according to the database WoRMS, 385 new taxa.(7 December 2007) from Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County website At least 37 taxa were named for James McLean with the epithet ''macleani'' (according to WoRMS) He named numerous taxa of marine gastropods including: * Clypeosectidae McLean, 1989, a ...

Otto Friedrich Müller
Otto Friedrich Müller, also known as Otto Friedrich Mueller (2 November 1730 – 26 December 1784) was a Danish naturalist and scientific illustrator. Biography Müller was born in Copenhagen. He was educated for the church, became tutor to a young nobleman, and after several years' travel with him, settled in Copenhagen in 1767, and married a lady of wealth. His first important works, ''Fauna Insectorum Friedrichsdaliana'' (Leipzig, 1764), and ''Flora Friedrichsdaliana'' (Strasbourg, 1767), giving accounts of the insects and flora of the estate of Frederiksdal, near Copenhagen, recommended him to Frederick V of Denmark, by whom he was employed to continue the ''Flora Danica'' a comprehensive atlas of the flora of Denmark. Müller added two volumes to the three published by Georg Christian Oeder since 1761. The study of invertebrates began to occupy his attention almost exclusively, and in 1771 he produced a work in German on “Certain Worms inhabiting Fresh and Salt Water, ...

Iothia Emarginuloides
''Iothia emarginuloides'' is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lepetidae, one of the families of true limpets. This species was previously known as ''Iothia coppingeri''. Taxonomy The type specimens of ''I. emarginuloides'' (Philippi, 1868) and ''I. coppingeri'' (E.A. Smith, 1881) are very similar in morphology, and were collected only apart; as long ago as 1908 this led to the recognition that they were probably the same species. Despite this, they continued to be treated as two separate species until 2011, when Nakano et al. researched the genus and brought them into synonymy. ''I. emarginuloides'' was described before ''I. coppingeri'', so by the rules of zoological nomenclature, the earlier name took priority. Description ''I. emarginuloides'' is a small, broadly ovate, cap-shaped limpet, with a length of about and width of . The apex of the shell is towards the anterior end, and is rather acute, but does not curl over. T ...

Genus
Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of extant taxon, living and fossil organisms as well as Virus classification#ICTV classification, viruses. In the hierarchy of biological classification, genus comes above species and below family (taxonomy), family. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. ''Panthera leo'' (lion) and ''Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus ''Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomy (biology), taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants ...

World Register Of Marine Species
The World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) is a taxonomic database that aims to provide an authoritative and comprehensive list of names of marine organisms. Content The content of the registry is edited and maintained by scientific specialists on each group of organism. These taxonomists control the quality of the information, which is gathered from the primary scientific literature as well as from some external regional and taxon-specific databases. WoRMS maintains valid names of all marine organisms, but also provides information on synonyms and invalid names. It is an ongoing task to maintain the registry, since new species are constantly being discovered and described by scientists; in addition, the nomenclature and taxonomy of existing species is often corrected or changed as new research is constantly being published. Subsets of WoRMS content are made available, and can have separate badging and their own home/launch pages, as "subregisters", such as the ''World List of ...
