Ion Dragoumis ( el, Ίων Δραγούμης) is a municipal unit of Orestida municipality in the Kastoria (regional unit), Kastoria regional unit, Western Macedonia, Greece. Until the 2011 local government reform it was a separate Communities and Municipalities of Greece, municipality. It was named after the Greek diplomat and protagonist of the Macedonian Struggle, Ion Dragoumis. The municipal unit has an area of 134.335 km2, and a population of 2,899 (2011). Kastoria (regional Unit)
Kastoria ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καστοριάς, ''Perifereiakí Enótita Kastoriás'') is one of the 74 regional units of Greece and is part of the region of Western Macedonia. Its capital is the homonymous city of Kastoria. Geography Kastoria is situated at the western end of Macedonia in the far north of the country. It borders the regional units of Florina to the north, Kozani to the southeast, Grevena to the south and Ioannina to the southwest. The area of the regional unit roughly corresponds to the ancient Greek region of Orestis of Upper Macedonia. The international border with the Albanian district of Korçë lies on the western edge of the regional unit. The municipalities of Greece ( el, δήμοι, translit=dímoi ) are the lowest level of government within the organizational structure of the state. Macedonian Struggle
The Macedonian Struggle ( bg, Македонска борба; el, Μακεδονικός Αγώνας; mk, Борба за Македонија; sr, Борба за Македонију; tr, Makedonya Mücadelesi) was a series of social, political, cultural and military conflicts that were mainly fought between Greek and Bulgarian subjects who lived in Ottoman Macedonia between 1893 and 1912. The conflict was part of a wider rebel war in which revolutionary organizations of Greeks, Bulgarians and Serbs all fought over Macedonia. Ion Dragoumis
Ion Dragoumis (; 14 September 1878 – 31 July 1920) was a Greek diplomat, philosopher, writer and revolutionary. Biography Born in Athens, Dragoumis was the son of Stephanos Dragoumis who was foreign minister under Charilaos Trikoupis. The Dragoumis family was a prominent Greek family, which originated from Vogatsiko in Kastoria regional unit. Ion's great-grandfather, Markos Dragoumis (1770–1854), was a member of the Filiki Eteria revolutionary organisation. Ion Dragoumis studied law at Athens University and, in 1899, entered the diplomatic branch of the Greek Foreign Ministry. In 1897, he enlisted in the Hellenic Army and fought in the Greco-Turkish War of 1897. In 1902, Dragoumis was made deputy consul in the Greek consulate at Monastir (present-day Bitola). Vogatsiko ( el, Βογατσικό, ''Vogatsikó'') is a village and a community in northern Greece in the modern regions of Greece, region of Western Macedonia, located at the southeast corner of Kastoria (regional unit), Kastoria regional unit. Between 1997 and 2010, it was the seat of the municipality of Ion Dragoumis (municipality), Ion Dragoumis. The population was 549 at the 2011 census.
