Ioan Alexi
Ioan Alexi (24 June 1800 – 29 June 1863) was a Romanian Greek Catholic hierarch. He was the first bishop of the new created Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla, Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Gherla, Armenopoli, Szamos-Ujvár from 1854 to 1863. Biography Born in Mălădia, Sălaj, Austrian Empire (present day – Romania) in 1800, he was Holy Orders, ordained a Priesthood (Catholic Church), priest on 30 October 1825. He was confirmed the Bishop by the Holy See on 16 November 1854. He was Consecration, consecrated to the Episcopal polity, Episcopate on 28 October 1855. The principal consecrator was Archbishop Alexandru Sterca-Șuluțiu, the co-consecrators were Bishop Vasile Erdeli and Bishop Angelo Parsi. He died in Gherla, Romania on 29 June 1863. Alexandru Sterca-Șuluțiu
Alexandru Sterca-Șuluțiu, also called Alexandru Sterca-Șuluțiu de Cărpiniș (February 15, 1794 – September 7, 1867), was an ethnic Romanian Eastern Catholic cleric in Imperial Austrian Transylvania, and the Metropolitan of the Transylvanian Greek Catholic Church. He was the brother of 1848 revolutionary commander Ioan Sterca-Șuluțiu. During his service the Diocese of Alba Iulia and Făgăraş (centred at Blaj) was removed from the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Esztergom (in Hungary) and became an ecclesiastic province in its own right, with the Dioceses of Oradea Mare, Gherla and Lugoj as suffragans (subordinate dioceses). Ioan Vancea
Ioan Vancea ( hu, Vancsa János; May 18, 1820—July 31, 1892) was an Austro-Hungarian ethnic Romanian bishop of the Greek-Catholic Church. Born to noble parents in Văşad, Bihor County, he was ordained a priest in 1845 following studies in Oradea and Vienna. After the death of Ioan Alexi, he was consecrated Bishop of Gherla in 1865. Three years later, following the death of Alexandru Sterca-Șuluțiu, he was elected Archbishop of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia, enthroned at Blaj in 1869. Gherla (; hu, Szamosújvár; german: Neuschloss) is a municipality in Cluj County, Romania (in the historical region of Transylvania). It is located from Cluj-Napoca on the river Someșul Mic, and has a population of 20,203. Vasile Erdeli (August 1, 1794 – March 17, 1862), also known as the Vasile Erdeli-Ardeleanu, was a Romanian bishop of the Diocese of Oradea Mare, between 1843 and 1862. Origins and education Vasile Erdeli was born in Makó, Csanád County, Kingdom of Hungary (today in Hungary), in a family of Romanian shepherds, leave the Budureasa. His secondary education was in Timișoara and Oradea then, as a student of United Romanian Youth Seminar, which ended in 1815.
