Inzell
Inzell is a municipality in the district of Traunstein in Bavaria, Germany. It is known for the Eisstadion Inzell, an outdoor artificial ice rink that has been used for many international speed skating championships. It is now an indoor oval. Geography Inzell lies in a wide valley floor in the Chiemgau Alps, framed by the mountains of Rauschberg, Zinnkopf, Teisenberg and the massif of Staufen. In the municipality, the confluence of the Großwaldbach and Falkenseebach rivers forms the Rote Traun river. Inzell is also known as the gateway to Berchtesgaden National Park due to the ''Zwing'', a mountain passage between Inzell and Weißbach, which separates the Chiemgau from Berchtesgaden. Eisstadion Inzell
The Max Aicher Arena (in the past also known as Eisstadion Inzell and Ludwig-Schwabl-Stadion) is a stadium located in Inzell, Germany, best known as a speed skating venue. It is an indoor, artificial ice rink, located 690 metres (2,264 feet) above sea level and has a capacity of 10,000 people. Since its opening, as an outdoor venue, towards the end of 1965, more than 80 world records in speed skating have been broken here, and until the advent of indoor speed skating arenas, it was known as the fastest European speed skating rink, second in the world after the Medeu rink. The stadium is also used for ice hockey, ice speedway, and (in the summer months) roller skating. Falkenseebach
Falkenseebach is a river in Bavaria Germany. Its source is about southwest of the Falkensee between Falkenstein () and Großer Turm () in the Eastern Chiemgau Alps. It flows northeast and then turns west to confluence with the Großwaldbach in Inzell; there the Rote Traun is formed. 2010–11 ISU Speed Skating World Cup
The 2010–11 ISU Speed Skating World Cup, officially the ''Essent ISU World Cup Speed Skating 2010–2011'', was a series of international speed skating competitions which ran the entire season. The season started on 12 November 2010 in Heerenveen, Netherlands, and ended on 6 March 2011, also in Heerenveen. ''SpeedSkatingStats.com''. In total, eight competition weekends were held at seven different locations, ten cups were contested (five for men, and five for women), and 70 races took place. The World Cup is organized by the International Skating Union (ISU). Teisenberg
Teisenberg is a mountain in Bavaria located between the villages Inzell, Anger and Teisendorf. It´s the northernmost thousand-metre peak in the German Alps and belongs to the Chiemgau Alps. It offers a view of the Northern Limestone Alps, which tower over it here by about 500 metres in altitude. Below the summit at an altitude of 1270 m is the Stoißer Alm, popular among hikers and mountain bikers. It is open all year round. Also located on the Teisenberg is the Bäcker Alm at 1067 m above sea level, which is open from May to October. Routes: Five routes to the Teisenberg are supervised by the DAV section Teisendorf. The summit can be reached in 1½ - 2 hours. Traunstein (district)
Traunstein is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the southeastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Mühldorf, Altötting, the Austrian states Upper Austria and Salzburg, the district Berchtesgadener Land, the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol, and the district Rosenheim. Geography The district is located in the northern foothills of the Alps. The Chiemsee is located in the west of the district. History In 1972 the district was merged with parts of the former district Laufen, and the previously independent urban district Traunstein. Bad Reichenhall (Central Bavarian: ''Reichahoi'') is a spa town, and administrative center of the Berchtesgadener Land district in Upper Bavaria, Germany. Sten Stensen
Sten Einar Stensen (born 18 December 1947) is a former speed skater. Together with Amund Sjøbrend, Kay Stenshjemmet, and Jan Egil Storholt, he was one of the legendary ''four S-es'' ("four aces" in Norwegian), contemporary Norwegian top skaters in the 1970s and early 1980s. Stensen excelled at the longer distances, especially the 5,000 m and 10,000 m, and set two world records. He was World Allround Champion in 1974 and European Allround Champion in 1975. He also won Olympic gold on the 5,000 m in Innsbruck in 1976. For his accomplishments, he received the Oscar Mathisen Award in 1974 and 1976. During the 1976 European Allround Championships in Oslo, Stensen (the defending European Champion), set a new world record on the 10,000 m, but he still lost his title to fellow Norwegian Kay Stenshjemmet by a tiny margin of only 0.005 points (equivalent to 0.10 seconds on the 10,000 m).
