Inuvik Airport
Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport is located east of Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). CBSA officers at this airport can handle general aviation aircraft only, with no more than 15 passengers. It is also used as a forward operating base for CF-18 Hornet military jets operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1995, the airport was named for Mike Zubko (1923–1991), a famous local aviator. Inuvik
Inuvik (''place of man'') is the only town in the Inuvik Region, and the third largest community in Canada's Northwest Territories. Located in what is sometimes called the Beaufort Delta Region, it serves as its administrative and service centre and is home to federal, territorial, and Indigenous government offices, along with the regional hospital and airport. Inuvik is located on the northern edge of the boreal forest, just before it begins to transition to tundra, and along the east side of the enormous Mackenzie River delta. The town lies on the border between the Gwich'in Settlement Region and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Fort Good Hope Airport is located southwest of Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories, Canada. Facilities A small terminal building with waiting area is the largest structure. Aklavik/Freddie Carmichael Airport is located adjacent to Aklavik, Northwest Territories, Canada. The aerodrome is built on the banks of the Peel Channel of the Mackenzie River delta. Aklavik was the regional centre but was prone to flooding. In 1959, Inuvik was purposely built to house a larger airport, highway connections, new health facilities, housing and an innovative public utilidor system. Ulukhaktok/Holman Airport
Ulukhaktok/Holman Airport, located at Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories, Canada was fully opened in December 1978 with the start of the Community Aerodrome Radio Station (CARS). However, aircraft had been using the runway prior to that as construction was completed in the summer of 1978. The airport is north of the town and a road was built to allow access from the community, which also included a short bridge to span the Okpilik River. Early years Prior to the construction of the airport all aircraft either landed on an ice strip in the winter or in the middle of town. The old runway ran from the shore of "Jacks Bay" to the centre of the community. Besides limiting the size of the aircraft, Douglas DC-3 or De Havilland Canada Dash 7, able to land it also was a potentially dangerous situation. Sachs Harbour ( ; ) is a hamlet located in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Situated on the southwestern coast of Banks Island in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, the population according to the 2021 census count was 104 people. Sachs Harbour is the only permanent settlement on Banks Island. Etymology The town was named after the ship ''Mary Sachs'', which was part of the Canadian Arctic Expedition 1913–1916.
