Interstate 75 (I-75) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from the Hialeah, Florida, Hialeah–Miami Lakes, Florida, Miami Lakes border, a few miles northwest of Miami, to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I-75 begins its national northward journey near Miami, running along the western parts of the Miami metropolitan area before traveling westward across Alligator Alley (also known as Everglades Parkway), resuming its northward direction in Naples, Florida, Naples, running along Florida's Gulf Coast of the United States, Gulf Coast, and passing the cities of Fort Myers, Florida, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda, Florida, Punta Gorda, Venice, Florida, Venice, and Sarasota, Florida, Sarasota. History The development was constructed by Sengra (now the Graham Companies) beginning in 1962 on land formerly owned by Florida State Senator Ernest "Cap" Graham. The Grahams stated for many years that it would be a 30-year development, but they are still developing to this day. The original Miami Lakes development, east of the Palmetto Expressway, was master-planned by Lester Collins with curving tree-shaded roadways and numerous curving lakes, which are unusual compared to most surrounding areas with their treeless streets on a square grid and rectangular lakes.
