Interstate 585
Interstate 585 (I-585) is a auxiliary Interstate Highway of I-85 in the US state of South Carolina. It is an orphan auxiliary route to I-85 since 1995 when the Interstate was relocated further north bypassing Spartanburg. In a concurrency with US Highway 176 (US 176) throughout, it spurs south from I-85 Business (I-85 Bus) for a couple of miles before entering the downtown area. Route description I-585 is cosigned the entire length with US 176 and it uses US 176's exit number system instead of its own. The route is also signed as North Pine Street its entire length. The southern terminus begins at exit 25, where the road continues as US 176/South Carolina Highway 9 (SC 9). I-585 remains concurrent with US 176 starting at exit 25 as it heads northwest. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. A business route (or business loop, business spur, or city route) in the United States is a short special route connected to a ''parent'' numbered highway at its beginning, then routed through the central business district of a nearby city or town, and finally reconnecting with the same ''parent'' numbered highway again at its end. South Carolina Highway 9 (SC 9) is a major state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The highway travels from Cherry Grove Beach to the North Carolina state line upstate. Interstate 85 Business (Spartanburg, South Carolina)
Interstate 85 Business (I-85 Bus. or BL 85) is a business loop of the Interstate Highway System. It is entirely a freeway running along the old route of I-85 in the vicinity of Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States. It is the only freeway to connect with I-585, which is now an isolated piece of the Interstate Highway System (as Interstate business routes themselves are considered isolated from the Interstate System).
