''Internet Killed the Rockstar'' is the fourth studio album by American musician Mod Sun, released on February 12, 2021 by Big Noise Music Group. Produced by John Feldmann, the album marks a departure from Mod Sun's hip hop sound in favor of pop punk. The album was promoted with three singles: "Karma", "Bones" and "Flames", the latter of which is a collaboration with Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne. ''Internet Killed the Rockstar'' received generally positive reviews upon its release, with music critics citing the album as a positive contribution to the resurgence of pop punk music in the 2020s. A deluxe edition of the album featuring eight additional songs was released on May 7, 2021. Derek Ryan Smith (born March 10, 1987), known professionally as Mod Sun (stylized as MOD SUN or MODSUN) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and rapper from Bloomington, Minnesota. He has released four solo studio albums, three EPs, six mixtapes and 31 singles. Beginning his musical career by playing drums in pop punk band the Semester and post-hardcore groups Four Letter Lie and Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Smith began a solo rap career in 2009 under the name Mod Sun. ''Your Favorite Weapon'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Brand New, released in 2001. The album consists largely of power chord-heavy pop punk songs, detailing the highs and lows of teenage relationships and experiences. Over time, as the band's sound changed drastically, many songs from the album have been phased out of the band's live shows. A 2004 interview with ''Kerrang!'' described the band as feeling "somewhat ashamed" of the album. Background Vocalist/guitarist Jesse Lacey, bassist Garrett Tierney and drummer Brian Lane played in a band called The Rookie Lot with Brandon Reilly before the band eventually broke up. Brand New was an American rock band from Long Island, New York. Formed in 2000, the band consisted of Jesse Lacey (vocals, guitar), Vincent Accardi (guitar, vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass guitar, vocals) and Brian Lane (drums, percussion); they were joined by Benjamin Homola (percussion) for their live performances. From 2005 to 2013, the band also included Derrick Sherman (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards).
