International Rugby League
The International Rugby League (IRL) is the global governing body for the sport of rugby league football. Previously known as the ''Rugby League Imperial Board'', the '' International Rugby League Board'' and latterly the ''Rugby League International Federation'', the IRL is responsible for the '' Laws of the Game'', the development, organisation and governance of rugby leagues internationally, and for the sport's major international tournaments; most notably the Rugby League World Cup. There are two regional associations affiliated to the IRL; the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) and the Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC). Fédération Française De Rugby à XIII
The French Rugby League Federation (french: Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII (FFR)) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league football in France. The Federation was formed during 1934 and since then has organised and governed the French rugby league championship, the Lord Derby Cup and all of the clubs that are contained within those organisations. The FFR also controls the France national rugby league team organizing fixtures that they compete in, they also have a major voting position in the Rugby League International Federation where they help organise many aspects of rugby league worldwide. Maurice Lindsay (rugby League)
Maurice Lindsay (8 May 1941 – 17 May 2022) was the chairman of Preston North End F.C. and of Wigan Warriors R.L.F.C. and had two stints at the club after being one of the 'Gang of Four' directors that used to run the club when it dominated the league in the 1980s. Career Lindsay was the owner of a contractors plant hire company as well as a bookmaker when he came to Wigan in 1980 to join Jack Robinson, Tom Rathbone & Jack Hilton. This led to an upsurge in the fortunes of the club. Wigan became one of the first teams to turn professional in the league and dominated the scene winning an eight League Championships, between 1987 and 1996, as well as nine Challenge Cup wins including a record eight consecutive wins between 1988 and 1995 as well as five Lancashire County Cups and three World Club Championships. British Amateur Rugby League Association
The British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) is an association for social and recreational rugby league. It works jointly with the Rugby Football League through the RFL Community Board. History BARLA was created in 1973 in Huddersfield at the George Hotel by a group of enthusiasts concerned about the dramatic disappearance of many amateur leagues and clubs. Fewer than 150 amateur teams remained with a mere thirty youth rugby league teams. The 'breakaway' from the RFL was acrimonious and was strongly contested with a vote 29–1 against recognising BARLA. Thanks to Tom Mitchell, this changed to a unanimous vote of approval for BARLA within twelve months. Rugby League World Sevens
The Rugby League World Sevens, usually referred to as the World Sevens and sometimes as the World Cup Sevens, was a pre-season rugby league sevens tournament made up over the years primarily of New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL), Australian Rugby League (ARL) and mostly recently National Rugby League (NRL) teams, along with teams representing NSW Country and nations including Tonga, France, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Russia, Fiji, the USA and England. When the National Rugby League was formed in Australasia in 1998 the World Sevens competition was dropped, but it returned in 2003 when Parramatta successfully defended their title from the last time in 1997. Australian National Rugby League Team
The Australian National Rugby League Team, the Kangaroos, have represented Australia in senior men's rugby league football competition since the establishment of the 'Northern Union game' in Australia in 1908. Administered by the Australian Rugby League Commission, the Kangaroos are ranked fourth in the RLIF World Rankings. The team is the most successful in Rugby League World Cup history, having contested all 16 and won 12 of them, failing to reach the final only once, in the inaugural tournament in 1954. Only five nations (along with NZ Maori) have beaten Australia in test matches, and Australia has an overall win percentage of 70%. Tas Baitieri
Bortolo "Tas" Baitieri (born 17 September 1958) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s, and coached in the 1980s and 1990s. He played for the Penrith Panthers, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Australia and Paris Châtillon XIII in France. He was later the coach of the French national side. Playing career Playing in the forwards, Baitieri played with the Penrith Panthers and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Australia, spending the off-seasons in France playing for Paris Châtillon XIII. Kevin Humphries
Kevin John Humphries (born 2 April 1960), an Australian politician, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Barwon for the Nationals from 2007 to 2019. He was the Minister for Healthy Lifestyles and Mental Health between 2011 and 2014; and the Minister for Western New South Wales in the O'Farrell government since April 2011. Bob Abbott (November 1, 1932 – March 23, 2010) was an American lawyer and jurist who served as a justice of the Kansas Supreme Court from September 1, 1990, to June 6, 2003. Early life and education Abbott was born in Hodgeman County, Kansas. He earned an associate of arts degree from Dodge City Junior College, a Bachelor of Science from Emporia State University in 1956, and a law degree from Washburn University School of Law in 1960. He later in 1986 received a Masters in Law from the University of Virginia. Career Abbot served in the United States Air Force, where he was a navigator on an Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. Tom Bellew
Thomas Joseph Bellew (30 January 1922 – 26 June 2001) was an Australian rugby league administrator. He was educated at Marcellin College Randwick, and was Dux of the college in 1938. Having had a long career as a grade referee, he became the Code's pre-eminent expert on the rules before serving as a Vice President of the New South Wales Rugby League from 1974 to 1983. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1983 and remained in that position until 1986. He was also a long-serving director of the Australian Rugby League from 1983 to 1997. In 1986 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of service to the sport and for public service. He was also the chairman of the Gold Coast Chargers from 1996 to 1998 and the inaugural chairman of the Metropolitan Cup. Bill Fallowfield
William Fallowfield OBE (20 July 1914 – 12 November 1985) was a British rugby league football coach and administrator of the mid-20th century. Fallowfield was educated at Barrow Grammar School and attended St Catharine's College at the University of Cambridge. After graduating, he joined the Royal Air Force, where he served as a Flight Lieutenant during the Second World War. He played rugby union for Northampton, and played twice in wartime international matches for England in 1942. In 1946, he was appointed as secretary of the International Rugby League Board, a role which he served in until the 1970s.
