International Society For The History Of Medicine
The International Society for the History of Medicine is a non profit international society devoted to the academic study of the history of medicine, including the organization of international congresses. The Society was founded in 1920 in Belgium. The society is present in 50 countries, holds delegations in 38 countries, and has about 800 members. It also includes national societies in Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Finland, France, Greece, Mexico, Morocco, Romania, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Membership is open to both physicians and historians. Athanasios Diamandopoulos ( el, Αθανάσιος Διαμαντόπουλος; born 1943) is a Greek doctor and writer on medicine. Biography He was born in the town of Arginio, Greece, in 1943 and spent his childhood in Patras and Ioannina. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1967 and in 1974 finished his specialization in pathology at the Therapeutic Unit of the "Alexandra" Hospital in Athens. During the same year he left for Glasgow, Scotland, having won a state scholarship. He returned to Greece in 1978 with the titles of PhD from the University of Athens, Philosophiae Doctorem from the University of Glasgow, a specialization in nephrology, and a Scottish wife. John Cule
John Hedley Cule (7 February 1920 10 April 2015) was a Welsh physician who worked as a general practitioner and later as a psychiatrist. In 2005, he was awarded a MBE for his work in mental health in West Wales. His interest in the history of medicine led him to become the editor of the journal ''Vesalius'', lecturer in the history of medicine at the Welsh National School of Medicine and the president of the British Society for the History of Medicine, the Osler Club of London, the International Society for the History of Medicine and the Welsh Society of the History of Medicine. Noël Poynter
Frederick Noël Lawrence Poynter FLA (24 December 1908 – 11 March 1979) was a British librarian and medical historian who served as director of the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine from 1964 to 1973. In 1958, Poynter was a key player in founding the Faculty of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Society of Apothecaries and subsequently in 1965, he was one of the founding committee members who established the British Society for the History of Medicine (BSHM). He became its president in 1972 and also became secretary-general of the Société Internationale d’Histoire de la Médecine, later becoming its president too.
