International Photography Awards
The International Photography Awards are a group of awards for professional, non-professional and student photographers on a global scale which are awarded annually at the Lucie Awards gala. The winners of the main categories are invited to attend the gala to compete for the main award of International Photographer of the Year, receiving a Lucie statue and a cash prize of $10,000. History The International Photography Awards were created by Hossein Farmani as part of the mission of the Lucie Foundation. They were initially presented in December 2003 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California, at the Lucie Awards gala produced by Golden Globe nominee, Michelle Burstin. Lucie Awards
The Lucie Awards is an annual event honoring achievements in photography, founded in 2003 by Hossein Farmani. The Lucie Awards is an annual gala ceremony presented by the Lucie Foundation (a 501 (c)3 non-profit charitable organization), honoring photographers and their achievements. The Lucies bring together photographers from all over the world and pay tribute to their colleagues. Every year, the Advisory Board nominates individuals for their contributions to photography across a variety of categories, and once the nominations are tallied, they are pre-announced months before the Lucies. Khandaker Muhammad Asad ( bn, খন্দকার মোহাম্মদ আসাদ ; born 1983), known as K M Asad, is a Bangladeshi documentary photographer and photojournalist. He is currently a photojournalist at Zuma Press news agency and contributor photographer for Getty images. He won a 3rd Prize award at the 2021 World Press Photo for his Climate Crisis Solutions: Collecting Drinking Water in Kalabogi. Art Streiber is an American photographer known in particular for his portraits of entertainment and sports personalities. Mikael Chukwuma Owunna (born 1990) is an African-American photographer who currently lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Life Owunna was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, of Nigerian and Swedish heritage. Howard Schatz (born 1940) is an American photographer, who previously had a career as an ophthalmologist. Life and work Ophthalmology Schatz began his professional life in medicine. He completed his medical degree at The University of Illinois College of Medicine, followed by an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, ophthalmology residency at The University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, and fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Sebastian Copeland (born 3 April 1964) is a British-American-French photographer, polar explorer, author, lecturer, and environmental advocate. He has led numerous expeditions in the polar regions to photograph and film endangered environments.
