International Film Festival Cinematik
International Film Festival Cinematik (IFFC) is an international film festival in Piešťany, Slovakia, annually held during second week of September. The 14th year was held from 10 to 15 September 2019. Festival is focusing primarily on European and Slovak cinematography. The organizers of the festival are non-governmental organization MFF Piešťany, o.z., backed by the City of Piešťany and Slovak Health Spa Piešťany. The festival takes place at seven locations: the House of Arts, Fontana cinema, Cinema club, the music pavilion, Kursalon, on Spa island by Bažant cinema and bar Žiwell. Festival board Honorary director of the festival since its establishment is Slovak actress Božidara Turzonovová. Executive director is Tomáš Klenovský and Slovak director Vladimír Štric is artistic director. Piešťany
Piešťany (; german: Pistyan, hu, Pöstyén, pl, Pieszczany , cs, Píšťany ) is a town in Slovakia. It is located in the western part of the country within the Trnava Region and is the seat of its own district. It is the biggest and best known spa town in Slovakia and has around 28,000 inhabitants. Etymology The name Piešťany comes from Slovak ''Piesok'' (sand), referring to local sandbanks. The etymology is straightforward – ''Piešťanci'' – people who live on the sandy site and ''Piešťany'' – their settlement. History The first human settlement in the area is dated to the prehistoric times, about 80,000 years ago. People were attracted to the site by abundance of game in the vicinity of the thermal springs that did not freeze in winter. Julia Ducournau (; born 18 November 1983) is a French film director and screenwriter. She made her feature film debut in 2016 with ''Raw''. ''Son of Saul'' ( hu, Saul fia) is a 2015 Hungarian historical drama film directed by László Nemes, in his feature directorial debut, and co-written by Nemes and Clara Royer. It is set in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, and follows a day-and-a-half in the life of Saul Ausländer (played by Géza Röhrig), a Hungarian member of the '' Sonderkommando''.
