International Economic Association
The International Economic Association (IEA) is an NGO established in 1950, at the instigation of the Social Sciences Department of UNESCO. To date, the IEA still shares information and maintains consultative relations with UNESCO. In 1973 the IEA became a federated member of the International Social Science Council. The goal of the IEA is to promote personal contacts and mutual understanding among economists in different parts of the world through the organization of scientific meetings, through common research programs and by means of publications of an international character on problems of current importance. Avner Greif
Avner Greif (; born 1955) is an economics professor at Stanford University, Stanford, California. He holds a chaired professorship as Bowman Family Professor in the Humanities and Sciences. Greif received his PhD in Economics at Northwestern University, where Joel Mokyr acted as his supervisor, in 1989 and started his career at Stanford University in 1989 until he received tenure in 1994. In 1998 he received a 'genius grant' from the MacArthur Foundation. His works deal with economic history and role of institutions in economic development, including analysis of trade in medieval Europe and Levant. Work Greif specializes in the study of the social institutions that support economic development, and their history, incorporating game theory into his approach to this large subject. Leonard Wantchekon
Leonard Wantchekon is a Beninese economist and professor of Politics and International Affairs at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, and an affiliate of the Economics Department at Princeton University. He taught at Yale University (1995–2001) and New York University (2001 -2011). He is the founding director of the African School of Economics, which is based in Benin. His study with Nathan Nunn on the impact of slave trading on modern-day trust is among the most-cited studies in economics. Biography Wantchekon was born and raised in Zagnanado, Benin. His parents were farmers. After enrolling at university, Wantchekon became an activist who campaigned against Mathieu Kérékou's dictatorship. Wantchekon evaded authorities until 1985 when he was arrested. Andrés Velasco Brañes (; born August 30, 1960) is a Chilean economist and professor who served as Minister of Finance (Chile), Minister of Finance in the first government of President of Chile, President Michelle Bachelet from March 2006 to March 2010.
