International Council For Philosophy And Humanistic Studies
The International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies (French: ''Conseil international de la philosophie et des sciences humaines''; ICPHS/CIPSH) is a non-governmental organization within UNESCO. It embraces hundreds of learned societies in the field of philosophy, human sciences and related subjects. History CIPSH was founded at a first General Assembly held in January 1949 upon suggestion by Sir Julian Huxley, the first Director-General of UNESCO. The first president was Jacques Rueff. Members Officers The officers of CIPSH are Luiz Oosterbeek (President), Catherine Jami (Vice President), Luisa Migliorati (Vice President), Margaret Higonnet (Treasurer), Hsiung Ping-Chen (Secretary General), Tim Jensen (Assistant Secretary General), and Chao Gejin (Past President). An international non-governmental organization (INGO) is an organization which is independent of government involvement and extends the concept of a non-governmental organization (NGO) to an international scope. NGOs are independent of governments and can be seen as two types: ''advocacy NGOs'', which aim to influence governments with a specific goal, and ''operational NGOs'', which provide services. International Union Of History And Philosophy Of Science
The International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology is one of the members of the International Science Council (ISC). It was founded in 1955 by merging the ''International Union of History of Science'' (IUHS) and the ''International Union of Philosophy of Science'' (IUPS), and consists of two divisions, the ''Division of History of Science and Technology'' (DHST) and the ''Division of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology'' (DLMPST).
