International Conference On The Unity Of Sciences
The International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences is an academic conference founded by the Unification Church new religious movement in 1968. These conferences have been attended by 5000 to over 6500 scholars, including two dozen Nobel laureates ICUS XIII The 13th annual ICUS conference themes “Absolute Values and the New Cultural Revolution” took place at the Marriott Hotel in Washington, bringing together 240 participants from 46 countries. Among them were the dean of international programs at Indiana University John Lombardi; Harvard Medical School biochemist Claude A. Villee; Morton Kaplan, a political scientist from the University of Chicago, and Eugene P. Wigner, a Princeton University physicist and Nobel laureate who, at an ICUS conference two years ago, received a $200,000 "founder's award" from Moon. Unification Church
The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, widely known as the Unification Church, is a new religious movement, whose members are called Unificationists, or "Moonies". It was officially founded on 1 May 1954 under the name Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (HSA-UWC) in Seoul, South Korea, by Sun Myung Moon (1920–2012). Moon and his wife Hak Ja Han were the leaders of the church and are honored by its members as their "True Parents." The beliefs of the Unification Church are based on Moon's book the ''Divine Principle.'' The movement is well known for its "Blessing" or mass wedding ceremonies. The Unification Church has been criticized for its teachings and for its social influence, with some critics calling it a "dangerous cult".
