International Community School (Thailand)
International Community School (ICS; , ) is an international Christian school in Bang Na District, Bangkok. It follows a US curriculum and is jointly accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). History In 1981, expatriate families founded a cooperative to educate their children from a biblical worldview. The cooperative continued for 12 years, providing first grade to sixth grade education. In 1990 many of these expatriate families and the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS) met to discuss the feasibility of establishing a Christian school to provide kindergarten through twelfth grade education to the English-speaking international community in Bangkok. Bang Na ( th, บางนา, ) is one of the fifty districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. Its neighbors, clockwise from the north, are the Phra Khanong and Prawet Districts of Bangkok and Bang Phli, Mueang Samut Prakan, and Phra Pradaeng Districts of Samut Prakan province. The Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), founded in 1978, is an association of evangelical Christian schools. Its headquarters are in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bang Pa-in ( th, บางปะอิน, ) is one of the 16 districts (''amphoe'') of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, central Thailand. History Bang Pa-in was established in the Ayutthaya era in the name ''Khwaeng'' Uthai. In the Rattanakosin era ''Khwaeng'' Uthai was divided to be ''Khwaeng'' Uthai Noi and Uthai Yai. The Network of International Christian Schools (NICS) is an organization that consists of 15 schools in 13 countries in Asia, Africa, South America, Europe and includes an online school in North America. There are plans in the works for more schools in the near future. History In 1983, Joe Hale, his wife Ann, and some other missionaries formed Liberty Christian School ( International Christian School) in South Korea. They initially anticipated that this school would educate about 30 students, but on the school’s inaugural day 83 students arrived for classes. The school continued to grow, and currently there are three NICS schools in South Korea with a total enrollment of over 1200 students. It quickly became apparent that the need for international schools, particularly Christian ones, was present in many countries beyond Korea.
