Interlake Region
The Interlake Region is an informal geographic region of the Canadian province of Manitoba that lies roughly between Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The region comprises 14 rural municipalities, one city (the City of Selkirk), five towns ( Arborg Riverton, Stonewall, Teulon and Winnipeg Beach) and one village, Dunnottar. The largest population centre in the region is Selkirk. The second largest is the town of Stonewall. Argyle, Manitoba, is the small hamlet that is located on the Principal Meridian of Canada, near the middle of the Interlake Region. Sandy Hook is located between Winnipeg Beach and Gimli, a popular summer vacation spot. Teulon, Manitoba
Teulon is a town located approximately 59 kilometres north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on Provincial Trunk Highway 7. Located between Stonewall and Gimli, Teulon is commonly referred to as "The Gateway to the Interlake". Teulon is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Rockwood. History Teulon was founded in 1919, as a settlement for immigrant farmers, by Charles C. Castle, and was affectionately named after his wife's maiden name of "Teulon". Interlake
Interlake was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1979, and has formally existed since the 1981 provincial election. Previously, much of the Interlake region was included in the constituency of St. George. As its name implies, Interlake was located between Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba, in the mid-northern section of the province. Interlake was bordered to the east by Lake Winnipeg, to the south by Lakeside and Gimli, to the north by Swan River, and to the west by Lake Manitoba. Communities in the riding include Arborg, Riverton, Ashern, Fraserwood. The Black and Deer Islands are also located in the riding. Eriksdale, Manitoba
Eriksdale is an unincorporated community located in the Interlake Region of central Manitoba, Canada, near the eastern shore of Lake Manitoba. The community is located on the crossroads of Highway 6 and Highway 68, approximately north of Winnipeg. It is now a part of the Rural Municipality of West Interlake. History The first white settlers in the area now known as Eriksdale were from Sweden and began arriving in 1905. They mostly arrived via Oak Point, which was the end of the rail line at the time. Two names were originally proposed for the community, ''Lairdsville'', after the Laird brothers who established the first boarding house in the town and ''Erikson'', after Jonas Erik Erikson, the first settler in the area and who originally owned the land for the townsite. Ashern, Manitoba
AshernCanada 2016 Censuspopulation 565) is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district located in the Municipality of West Interlake in Manitoba's Interlake Region. The RM of Siglunes was incorporated in 1917. Ashern was named after A. S. Hern, a timekeeper of the firm that constructed the railway that served the Western Interlake. Today the municipality supports the agriculture (mostly beef in addition to a few private pork and chicken farms), fishing, mineral extraction, recreation and tourism industries. Fisher Branch is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in the Rural Municipality of Fisher in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is located on Highway 17 in the north Interlake Region of the province. Gimli, Manitoba
Gimli is an unincorporated community in the Rural Municipality of Gimli on the west side of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. The community's first European settlers were Icelanders who were part of the New Iceland settlement in Manitoba. The community maintains a strong connection to Iceland and Icelandic culture today, including the annual Icelandic Festival. It was incorporated as a village on March 6, 1908, and held town status between December 31, 1946, and January 1, 2003, when it amalgamated with the RM of Gimli. Census Canada now recognizes the community as a population centre for census purposes. The 2021 Canadian census recorded a population of 2,345 in the population centre of Gimli. Argyle is a small hamlet located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Argyle is in Manitoba's Interlake Region. It is part of the Rural Municipality of Rockwood (but just across the road from the Rural Municipality of Woodlands to the west). It is approximately 30 km from Manitoba's capital, Winnipeg. Dunnottar, Manitoba
The Village of Dunnottar is a village in the Canadian province of Manitoba. As part of the Interlake and Metro regions, the municipality is located on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, just off Highway 9, south of Winnipeg Beach. It encompasses the towns of Ponemah, Whytewold, and Matlock. These centres grew around Canadian Pacific Railway stations. Winnipeg Beach
Winnipeg Beach is a town in the Interlake Region, in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The town was founded in 1900 by Sir William Whyte and is located at the junction of Highway 9 and Highway 229 on the southwestern shore of Lake Winnipeg, about north of Winnipeg. It is bordered by the Rural Municipality of Gimli, the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, and Dunnottar as well as Lake Winnipeg. Stonewall, Manitoba
Stonewall is a town in the Canadian province of Manitoba with a population of 5,046 as of the 2021 census. The town is situated approximately north of Winnipeg on PTH 67. It is known for its limestone quarries. The local festival is the Quarry Days which is usually held over three days in August on Main Street. The town is surrounded by the R.M. of Rockwood. History When the last ice age retreated, as well as the prairies, escarpments such as Riding Mountain were left behind. In addition to these, smaller elevations were left behind such as Stony Mountain and Stonewall.
