Institute Of Policy Studies (Singapore)
The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is a think-tank that studies and generates public policy ideas in Singapore. Established in 1988, IPS became an autonomous research centre of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore in 2008. A centre for social indicators research, Social Lab, was set up by IPS in November 2013. The board of directors at the institute includes high ranking Singapore government officials, diplomats, directors of multinational businesses, and leaders of academic institutions. Research activities IPS contributes to the research and analysis of domestic issues covering a wide range of topics and areas of study, focusing primarily on Singapore-centric subjects. A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Most think tanks are non-governmental organizations, but some are semi-autonomous agencies within government or are associated with particular political parties, businesses or the military. Think-tank funding often includes a combination of donations from very wealthy people and those not so wealthy, with many also accepting government grants. Tan Tai Yong
Tan Tai Yong () is a Singaporean academic and politician who served as the President of Yale-NUS College from 2017 to 2022. He is also Director of the Institute of South Asian Studies, an autonomous university-level research institute in NUS. He was a former Nominated Member of Parliament and served from 2014 to 2015. Yong Pung How (11 April 1926 – 9 January 2020) was a Malayan-born Singaporean judge, lawyer and banker who served as the second chief justice of Singapore between 1990 and 2006, appointed by President Wee Kim Wee. He also served as the chancellor of the Singapore Management University between 2010 and 2015. Early life and education Yong was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya, in an ethnic Chinese family with Hakka ancestry from Dabu County, Guangdong, China. After completing his early education at Victoria Institution, Yong went on to read law at Downing College, Cambridge University. Tan Tarn How ()) is a Singaporean playwright and senior research fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies (Singapore). His plays have been staged in Singapore and Hong Kong, and have won numerous awards. In 2011, Epigram Books published a collection of six of his plays. Ong Keng Yong (born 6 January 1954) is a Singaporean diplomat who served as the 11th secretary-general of ASEAN between 2003 and 2007. He is currently the Executive Deputy Chairman of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at the Nanyang Technological University. Cheong Koon Hean
Cheong-Chua Koon Hean (; born 1957) is a Singaporean urban planner and architect. Biography Cheong is a Colombo Plan scholar with a first class degree in architecture at Newcastle University in 1981. Cheong completed a master's degree in Urban Development Planning from the University College London, and did a six-week Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. She received an honorary doctorate of architecture from the University of Newcastle in 2010. Cheong started working as a public servant in 1984. Cheong was the CEO of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) between 2004 and 2010 where she was in charge of various areas, such as conservation of historic buildings and real estate. Janadas Devan (born 1954) is a former journalist, and is the current Chief of Government Communications at the Ministry of Communications and Information of Singapore coordinates the government's public communications. He is also a director at the public policy think-tank Institute of Policy Studies (IPS). Janadas was formerly a senior editor of ''The Straits Times'', the flagship English-language daily newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings. He is the son of C.V.
