The Institute of History named after Abbasgulu Bakikhanov of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is a scientific research institute affiliated with ANAS. History Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences of History Institute was established in 1935 as an independent History, Archeology and Ethnography Institute which was subject to Azerbaijani Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The Institute has been operating since 1936. Within the structure of USSR Academy of Sciences’ Azerbaijani branch the institute started function as a separate scientific research institution since 1940. When the Azerbaijan SSR Academy of Sciences was organized in 1945 the History Institute was incorporated into its structure as an independent scientific institution. Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) ( az, Azərbaycan Milli Elmlər Akademiyası (AMEA)), located in Baku, is the main state research organization and the primary body that conducts research and coordinates activities in the fields of science and social sciences in Azerbaijan. Ivan Meshchaninov
Ivan Meshchaninov (24 November 1883 – 16 January 1967) was a Soviet linguist and ethnographer. Biography Born at Ufa, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of St Petersburg in 1907 and then briefly studied at Heidelberg University before taking up archaeology back at St Petersburg, graduating in 1910. He headed the archives of Institute of Archaeology until 1923 focussing on cataloguing the Elamite antiquities there. Aliovsat Najafgulu oglu Guliyev ( az, Əliövsət Nəcəfqulu oğlu Quliyev; 23 August 1922 – 06 November 1969) was an Azerbaijani historian. Amongst his many accreditations, he was a holder of a PhD in history, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, head of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR (1952 – 1958 and 1967 – 1969) and an honored member of the Czechoslovakia-USSR Friendship Society. Alisohbat Sumbat oglu Sumbatzade (8 January 1907, Əmircan, Baku, Amirjan, Baku – 28 January 1992, Baku) was a Soviet Azerbaijani people, Azerbaijani historian and Oriental studies, orientalist (member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijani SSR from 1958).
