Institute For Art And Olfaction
The Institute for Art and Olfaction is a non-profit organization devoted to advancing public, artistic and experimental engagement with scent. It was founded in 2012. History Described as "the West Coast's first organization to explore perfume in a larger arts context", The Institute for Art and Olfaction (IAO) was founded in October 2012 by Saskia Wilson-Brown. The IAO opened its experimental studio to the public in downtown Los Angeles in March 2013, moving to Koreatown in March 2014 and to its home on Chung King Road in Chinatown, Los Angeles in March, 2015. The IAO was created to counterbalance what Wilson-Brown perceived as a lack of access and transparency in the fragrance industry. Marcos Lutyens
Marcos Lutyens (born 1964) is a British interdisciplinary artist and author based in Los Angeles, California. Work Lutyens' projects are exhibited internationally, centering around explorations of sensory perception and the unconscious mind. He frequently uses hypnosis as part of his performances. Lutyens collaborates with artists, writers, and scientists on his projects. His interests in sensory perception and synesthesia have led him to collaborate with neuroscientist Richard Cytowic. He has also worked closely with The Institute for Art and Olfaction on various projects, using specially created scents to enhance and deepen the experience of his performance works. Machine Project was a Los Angeles based not-for-profit arts organization and community event space. Sadakichi Hartmann
Carl Sadakichi Hartmann (November 8, 1867 – November 22, 1944) was an American art and photography critic, notable anarchist and poet of German and Japanese descent. Biography Hartmann, born on the artificial island of Dejima, Nagasaki, to a Japanese mother Osada Hartmann (who died soon after childbirth) and German businessman Carl Herman Oskar Hartmann and raised in Germany, arrived in Philadelphia in 1882 and became an American citizen in 1894. An important early participant in modernism, Hartmann was a friend of such diverse figures as Walt Whitman, Stéphane Mallarmé and Ezra Pound. Around 1905, Hartmann was an occasional performer at the New York City Miner's Theater. Oude Kerk (Amsterdam)
The Oude Kerk (English: Old Church) is Amsterdam’s oldest building and youngest art institutes (since 2012). The building was founded circa 1213 and consecrated in 1306 by the bishop of Utrecht with Saint Nicolas as its patron saint. After the Reformation in 1578, it became a Calvinist church, which it remains today. It stands in De Wallen, now Amsterdam's main red-light district. The Tabernacle is a mid-size concert hall located in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Opening in 1911 as a church, the building was converted into a music venue in 1996. Public Fiction is a curatorial project and quarterly publication based in Los Angeles. It was founded in 2010 by Lauren Mackler. Graphic designer and curator Lauren Mackler moved from the east coast to L.A. to open Public Fiction in 2010. Public Fiction resides in an unmarked storefront in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Neither a commercial gallery nor a not-for-profit organization, the space hosts exhibitions for three months on a theme, within which are staged solo shows, group shows, performances, artist talks, screenings, and dinners, connected to that theme, all of it culminating into a publication.
