Instagram Museum
A "selfie museum" or "Instagram museum" is a type of art gallery or installation designed to provide a setting for visitors to pose in photographs to be posted on social media sites such as Instagram. Typical features of exhibits in a selfie museum include colorful backdrops, oversize props, and optical illusions such as anamorphosis. 29Rooms, a three-day immersive art installation created by Refinery29 in 2015 in New York City, has been cited as the first example of this type of facility. The Museum of Ice Cream, opened in 2016, is also credited as a major catalyst of selfie museums. By 2019, there were reportedly dozens of selfie museums across the United States. Yayoi Kusama
is a Japanese contemporary artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation, and is also active in painting, performance, video art, fashion, poetry, fiction, and other arts. The Museum of Pizza was a pop-up exhibition, or "selfie museum", of pizza-themed art that took place in Brooklyn, New York, from October 13 to November 16, 2018. The Museum of Pizza, otherwise known as MoPi, hosted over 25,000 people in its six-week run. The Museum of Pizza featured artwork by over 25 different artists, including large-scale pizza-inspired custom installations by Adam Green (musician), Adam Green, Shawna-x, Signe Pierce and Emma Stern, Gazoo To The Moon, and more. Color Factory
Color Factory is an interactive art exhibition with brightly colored room-sized installations, each themed around the concept of color. It has permanent locations in New York City, Chicago, and Houston. Color Factory has commonly been cited as part of a trend of "Instagram museums", temporary art exhibitions catered towards younger millennial audiences which are designed to be photographed (especially in selfies) and shared on Instagram and other social media. A pop-up exhibition is a temporary art event, less formal than a gallery or museum but more formal than private artistic showing of work. ''Urban Light'' (2008) is a large-scale assemblage sculpture by Chris Burden located at the Wilshire Boulevard entrance to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
