Inquisitor (hardware Testing Software)
Inquisitor is a software suite used for hardware diagnostics, stress testing, certification and benchmarking platform. It is available in three formats: * Standalone – As a package to be installed into existing Linux installation; such practice is somewhat limited in available tests. * Live – Distributed as a Linux live CD distribution; system under test should be booted from it; this way one particular system can be tested thoroughly. * Enterprise – A most advanced format; multiple systems can be tested simultaneously by booting from network using PXE, in fully controlled environment; all testing progress and results are collected on central server to be analyzed by testing operator. RPM Package Manager (RPM) (originally Red Hat Package Manager, now a recursive acronym) is a free and open-source package management system. The name RPM refers to the file format and the package manager program itself. RPM was intended primarily for Linux distributions; the file format is the baseline package format of the Linux Standard Base. IOzone
IOzone is a file system benchmark utility. Originally made by William Norcott, further enhanced by Don Capps and others. Source code is available from iozone.org. It does mmap() file I/O and uses POSIX Threads. It won the 2007 Infoworld Bossie Awards for Best file I/O tool. The Windows version of IOzone uses Cygwin. Hdparm
hdparm is a command line program for Linux to set and view ATA hard disk drive hardware parameters and test performance. It can set parameters such as drive caches, sleep mode, power management, acoustic management, and DMA settings. GParted and Parted Magic both include ''hdparm''. Changing hardware parameters from suboptimal conservative defaults to their optimal settings can improve performance greatly. For example, turning on DMA can, in some instances, double or triple data throughput. There is, however, no reliable method for determining the optimal settings for a given controller-drive combination, except careful trial and error. Depending on the given parameters, ''hdparm'' can cause computer crashes or render the data on the disk inaccessible. ALT Linux is a set of Russian operating systems based on RPM Package Manager (RPM) and built on a Linux kernel and Sisyphus package repository. ALT Linux has been developed collectively by ALT Linux Team developers community and ALT Linux Ltd. History ALT Linux Team arose from the merger of IPLabs Linux Team and the Linux community of the Institute of Logic, Cognitive Science and Development of Personality.
