Innocent Simiyu
Innocent "Namcos" Simiyu (born 24 April 1983) is a Kenyan rugby union former player who captained the Kenya national rugby union team and the Kenya national rugby sevens team, national rugby sevens team. In the World Rugby Sevens Series, Simiyu has represented Kenya in 121 matches scoring 321 points. At club level he played for Impala Saracens and Kenya Harlequin F.C., Kenya Harlequin. On 17 October 2016, he was appointed as head coach of the Kenya national rugby sevens team on a two-year contract and replacing Benjamin Ayimba. Simiyu is a brother to former Kenya national rugby union players Victor Sudi and Nato Simiyu. Kenya National Rugby Union Team
The Kenya national rugby union team is also known as the ''Simbas'' (''simba'' is Swahili for 'lion'). Kenya competes in the Africa Cup and is ranked thirty-third in the World Rugby Rankings as of August 2022. Kenya is yet to qualify for the Rugby World Cup. Kenya National Rugby Sevens Team
The Kenya national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Commonwealth Games. They are currently one of the 15 "core teams" of the World Series, with a guaranteed place in all 10 events each season. Kenya recorded its first tournament win in the World Rugby Sevens Series after beating Fiji at the 2016 Singapore Sevens. Kenya has also been successful in the Rugby World Cup Sevens, reaching the semifinals in 2009 and again in 2013. World Rugby Sevens Series
The World Rugby Men's Sevens Series is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments run by World Rugby featuring national sevens teams. Organised for the first time in the 1999–2000 season as the IRB World Sevens Series, the competition was formed to promote an elite-level of international rugby sevens and develop the game into a viable commercial product. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2014. The season's circuit consists of 10 tournaments that generally begin in November or December and last until May. The venues are held across 10 countries, and visits five of the six populated continents. Impala Saracens is a Kenyan rugby club based at the Impala Club (a sporting/country club in Nairobi, Kenya). The club competes in the Kenya Cup as well as the Enterprise Cup. Benjamin Ayimba
Benjamin Ayimba (27 August 1976 – 22 May 2021) was a rugby player and coach of the Kenya sevens rugby team. Career Ayimba played for Nondescripts RFC 2002 before moving to Cornish Pirates in England between 2003 and 2005. He played in the Kenya national rugby sevens team, Kenya Sevens squad that featured in the 2001 and 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournaments in Argentina and Hong Kong respectively. He also represented Kenya at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games. He coached the Kenya national rugby sevens team between 2006 and 2011 and again between 2015 and 2016.
