Initial Training Group
The Initial Training Group of the British Army is responsible for the content and delivery of non-infantry Phase 1 training. The group's headquarters are at Pirbright, Surrey, commanding 4 Army Training Regiments, 5 Army Training Units, the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, the Army School of Physical Training, and the ARITC Staff Leadership School. It is part of the Army Recruiting and Training Command, who are responsible for all recruiting and training prior to becoming a fully qualified soldier or officer. Army Recruiting And Initial Training Command
The Army Recruiting and Initial Training Command (ARITC) is a two-star command of the British Army and "is responsible for all recruiting, selection, and basic training of soldiers and the recruitment and selection of officers". History Army 2020 was the name given to the restructuring of the British Army, in light of the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review. On 1 April 2018, the Army Recruiting and Training Division was disbanded. Before this date, the division (a major-general's command) was tasked with everything from recruiting to initial training to second-level training. Alexander Barracks
Pirbright Camp is a British Army installation in Pirbright, Surrey. It houses the Army Training Centre Pirbright, and a number of other units. History In 1875, the War Office acquired of Pirbright's heath which is the southern end of the north-south range of sand hills in Surrey heath, known as Chobham Ridges. It established rifle ranges, a training depot and an 'encampment' for the Brigade of Guards here. Many of the current buildings date from the 1950s, with significant expansion in the 1970s. Army Training Unit
Army Training Units (ATU) provide Basic Training for a proportion of Army Reserve recruits in the British Army. History ATUs were created as Regional Training Centres (RTC) - which were in turn created from Brigade Specialist Training Teams (STT) - to provide basic training and specialist courses for the UK Army Reserve (formerly the Territorial Army). They were originally commanded and administered by their local Regional Forces (RF) Brigade. The Army Foundation College (AFC) is located in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. It is the only British Army establishment that delivers initial military training (Phase 1 training) to Junior Soldiers (aged between 16 years and 17 years, 5 months when they start). Prince William of Gloucester Barracks is a military installation near Grantham in Lincolnshire. History The barracks were established, on the site of the former RAF Spitalgate airbase, in October 1976, as the new Central Volunteer Headquarters for the Royal Corps of Transport. The barracks were formally named after Prince William of Gloucester at a ceremony held in March 1977 led by Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. The Infantry Training Centre (ITC) is a unit of the British Army, administered by HQ School of Infantry and responsible for the basic training and advanced training of soldiers and officers joining the infantry.
