Ingo Harden
Ingo Harden (born 26 February 1928) is a German music critic and writer. Life Born in Hamburg, Harden studied musicology with Heinrich Husmann and piano with Ilse Fromm-Michaels. From 1954 he worked first as an author and later as an editor for the then Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk. In 1964 he took over the editorial office of ' and headed the journal until 1976. From 1964 he was one of the jurors, later until 2000 managing secretary of the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. From 1977 to 1991 Harden was the German representative of the International Record Critics' Award. After decades of work as a record critic for trade journals and daily newspapers such as '' Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung'' and ''Die Welt'', Harden is still active today as an author for radio and books. ''The Oxford Companion to Music'' defines music criticism as "the intellectual activity of formulating judgments on the value and degree of excellence of individual works of music, or whole groups or genres". In this sense, it is a branch of musical aesthetics. With the concurrent expansion of interest in music and information media over the past century, the term has come to acquire the conventional meaning of journalistic reporting on musical performances. Nature of music criticism The musicologist Winton Dean has suggested that "music is probably the most difficult of the arts to criticise." Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk (NWDR; ''Northwest German Broadcasting'') was the organization responsible for public broadcasting in the German Länder of Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia from 22 September 1945 to 31 December 1955. Until 1954, it was also responsible for broadcasting in West Berlin. NWDR was a founder member of the consortium of public-law broadcasting institutions of the Federal Republic of Germany, the ARD. Preis Der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik
The Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik ("German Record Critics' Award") was established in Germany in 1963 by publisher Richard Kaselowsky with the aim of setting the "most rigorous standards for supreme achievement and quality" in the field of music recording. Later on, it became closely linked to the German music industry's Deutsche Phono-Akademie e.V. – however, in 1980, the entire jury cut these ties and became an independent association. In 1988, in order to remain independent from commercial interests of the music industry, the jury officially registered as a non-profit organization, ''Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik e.V.'' (PdSK e.V.). Gregor Willmes
Gregor Willmes (born 30 March 1966) is a German musicologist, music writer and cultural manager. Life and career Born in Wanne-Eickel, Willmes took private piano, organ and music theory lessons with Matthias Kreuels. He studied musicology, philosophy and art history at the University of Bochum. Willmes has been writing about music for daily and music magazines since 1989. In addition, he writes programmed texts for major music festivals, booklet texts for major record labels and musical essays. Willmes was a volunteer at the '' Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung''.
