Ingleside Terraces, San Francisco
Ingleside Terraces is an affluent residential neighborhood of approximately 750 detached homes built at the former location of the Ingleside Racetrack in the southwestern part of San Francisco. It is adjacent to the Balboa Terrace, Ingleside, Merced Heights and Lakeside neighborhoods, and is bordered by Ocean Avenue to the north, Ashton Avenue to the east, Holloway Avenue to the south and Junipero Serra Boulevard to the west. The main local event that occurs is the Annual Sundial Park Picnic, in which the local residents host bicycle, chariot, and wagon racing. There is a large sundial located on Entrada Court, surrounded by the oval-shaped Urbano Drive, which was once a horse race track. Ingleside Terraces is one of nine master-planned residence parks in San Francisco. San Francisco, in the US state of California, has both major, well-known neighborhoods and districts as well as smaller, specific subsections and developments. While there is considerable fluidity among the sources, one guidebook identifies five major districts, corresponding to the four quadrants plus a south central district. These five broad districts, counterclockwise are: Central/downtown, Richmond, Sunset, Upper Market and beyond (south central) and Bernal Heights/Bayview and beyond (southeast). Within each of these five districts are located major neighborhoods, and again there is considerable fluidity seen in the sources. Junipero Serra Boulevard
Junipero Serra Boulevard is a major boulevard in and south of San Francisco named after Franciscan friar Junipero Serra. Within the city, it forms part of the route of State Route 1, the shortest connection between Interstate 280 and the Golden Gate Bridge. The remainder, in San Mateo County, was bypassed or replaced by I-280, the Junipero Serra Freeway. The boulevard was one of several new roads built along the San Francisco Peninsula before the age of freeways, and became a state highway known as Route 237 in 1956, receiving the State Route 117 designation in the 1964 renumbering, only to be deleted from the state highway system the next year. Sundial
A sundial is a horological device that tells the time of day (referred to as civil time in modern usage) when direct sunlight shines by the apparent position of the Sun in the sky. Rancho San Miguel (Noé)
Rancho San Miguel was a Mexican land grant in present-day San Francisco County, California. The land grant was given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to José de Jesús Noé. It included what is now known as Eureka Valley, and extended past Mount Davidson almost to present-day Daly City; it encompassed the present-day San Francisco neighborhoods of Noe Valley, the Castro, Glen Park, Diamond Heights and St. Francis Wood. History José de Jesús Noé (1805-1862) was born in Puebla, Mexico. He came to California with his wife, Guadalupe Garduno, in 1834 with the Hijar-Padres Colony. Ingleside Presbyterian Church
Ingleside Presbyterian Church is a historically African American church in the Ingleside neighborhood of San Francisco. The church is a San Francisco landmark and is noted for the collection of pictures and paintings that cover the interior walls as murals named ''The Great Cloud of Witnesses''. The paintings and portraits primarily depict figures from African American history and were originally put in the building when eventual pastor Roland Gordon was still in seminary. The churches demographics and population have shifted over time, at one point only having four members. While the church's parishioners remain predominantly African American other services it provides are used by the heavily Asian population of the Ingleside neighborhood. In 1967, the city of San Francisco, California adopted Article 10 of the Planning Code, providing the city with the authority to designate and protect landmarks from inappropriate alterations. San Francisco Chronicle
The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It was founded in 1865 as ''The Daily Dramatic Chronicle'' by teenage brothers Charles de Young and M. H. de Young, Michael H. de Young. The paper is owned by the Hearst Corporation, which bought it from the de Young family in 2000. It is the only major daily paper covering the city and county of San Francisco.
